Holiday weight gain

Ugh.. just got back from a week away and as expected have put on weight.

I'm just a bit shocked at how bloody much! Looks like nearly half a stone! Shock

I probably should weigh myself in the morning to get a truer pucture, but fuck me...!

Anyone else put on so much in a week??

For me it's been too much wine and crisps. I did go for a couple if runs, but it's never enough if you're eating crap.

Oh and too much bread.. loads more than I ever eat at home.

Back on the healthy stuff for me!

Great holiday though Grin

Yep Dave I am looking out at the cold drizzle and really trying to psych myself up to running. I hate the side stitch, it makes the whole run into a miserable chore doesn’t it?

Right. I’m suitably inspired. I’m off!

MrsJBaptiste · 12/08/2018 12:07

On holiday at the moment (sat in a caravan in France in the rain, hence the MNing!)

I low carb at home and haven't eaten pasta or bread for months. A week away and it's oadtriea for breakfast, baguette for lunch and pasta for tea 😮 But if you can't let things go on holiday then when can you? I have 50 weeks to eat well when I get home 👍

DavetheCat2001 · 12/08/2018 12:15

Too right MrsJ

Holiday's are for letting go and enjoying all the things you try to keep in moderation the rest of the year..it wouldn't be a holiday otherwise!

Good luck with the run bear...you'll feel suitably pleased with yourself afterwards Smile

7.5 km done, in the humid drizzly rain. Saw this little beaut while I was out!

Weighed myself post run, before food- total holiday gain of 4 pounds. Not horrific, but could be better!

Well done bear!

Lovely picture too!

AhAgain you are right. I'm off the salty snacks and booze for a bit now!

Weighed again this morning. Have been home now two days and I'm now 9lb heavier. How is that even possible? I think the food has been settling! I'm just back from shopping now with a fridge full of healthy stuff and have been inspired by some of the posts here and am popping out for a run.

FurForksSake · 12/08/2018 15:07

I am refusing to weigh myself till Wednesday, bread with abandon and milka and crisps every evening and it's going to be a minimum of 7lbs. Currently laying down wearing yoga pants as I have a sore throat and don't feel like cooking healthy food or exercising. I've got spinning booked tomorrow night, that's going to hurt!

youarenotkiddingme · 12/08/2018 15:13

I find flying make me bloat Hmm

First few days of holiday I'm like a balloon and then just as it settles I fly home.

Comes off pretty quickly though.

I'm going to Spain next week and know I'll come home feeling like a balloon and I won't be eating anything other than meat, rice and veg (my usual) because I'm GF and can't 😫

Shenanagins · 12/08/2018 17:18

Today is day 1 of returning from holiday and it’s miserable. I managed a 10k run but refusing to weigh myself.

Hopefully once I get back into my normal routine the weight will come off 🤞

DavetheCat2001 · 12/08/2018 17:34

10k is a great distance! I haven't run 10k for ages..5 is about my limit these days.

whatwouldkeithRichardsdo2 · 12/08/2018 17:45

My weight fluctuates so much and I've not done all the walking from the school run.

9kg difference since 28th July! 😱

I can't wait to get them back to school so I can get up, out the house and start moving again. I have a work reunion in 4 weeks. This weight has to GO!!!

DavetheCat2001 · 12/08/2018 17:49

keith I'm with you!

I do so much less walking when the kids are on holiday.

My saving grace on holiday was the swimming pool which I used everyday. I think if that hadn't have been there I would have just laid slug-like all week!

catstring · 12/08/2018 18:14

It's scientifically impossible to put on that much weight in actual fat in a week. You'd be sick before you could consume the amount of calories needed. Most of it will be water rentention.

Shenanagins · 12/08/2018 19:46

10k usually is an ok distance but I was 5 mins off pace!
To top it t, dh has just handed me a large glass of wine!

amusedbush · 12/08/2018 19:57

I gained 12lbs after a week in NYC Blush DH gained TWENTY Shock

We were both back to normal weight after a week of normal eating. I think our crazy gains were due to the fact that we were low carbing until the holiday and then went mad with carbs/sugar/treats while away.

amusedbush · 12/08/2018 19:58

(I know it wasn’t a fat gain, it would have been my glycogen stores filling up after eating carbs, so essentially water weight).

Groovee · 12/08/2018 19:59

Last year, 8 days all inclusive 5.5lbs. Lost 5lb the following week which was fine.

This year 6 days self catering 5lb on and only 2lb off the following week 🙈

DavetheCat2001 · 12/08/2018 20:07

That's an impressive gain amused! Shock

Bet those carby treats tasted awesome though! 😃

OP posts:
DavetheCat2001 · 12/08/2018 20:09

I've got back to my normal eating today. About to go and make a veg and tofu stir fry.

Hooefully my few lbs will drop off fairly quickly too.

I do seem to have more of a muffin top than I did pre-holiday though Hmm

AuntieStella · 12/08/2018 20:11

Weigh-in tomorrow.

It just seems so unfair that weight can pile on in a fortnight (I blame nibbles, booze and delicious local cheeses) but it'll take about 6 weeks to see it gone.

Shenanagins · 12/08/2018 20:12

It’s so annoying though to spend all year exercising and watching what you eat only to finally get the bikini out and see a big bloated tummy sticking out, only for it to go down when back at home!

Mummadeeze · 12/08/2018 20:32

I usually put on about a stone on holiday, not that I am proud of it! And it is a real slog to get it back off when I get home. However, I am going on holiday tomorrow and I am determined to come back having lost weight (!) I am going to do a run every morning in the hotel gym, swim loads and explore and walk a lot. I will eat loads of nice fruit and not go crazy on the carbs. That is my plan anyway. Am sick of coming home and feeling really fat and unhappy about it. Fingers crossed!

Unobtainable · 12/08/2018 20:38

Pretty normal for me! Grin

Seriously, it’ll be water weight. In a couple if week’s you’ll lose it

AuntieStella · 13/08/2018 06:27

Oh crappity crappity crap. 7lbs.

Better start tackling it now, rather than put it off (as I was considering) until the start of term.

Really hoping that at least some will vanish quickly. Because I'm training for a half-marathon and that always makes me hungry.
