'Normal' things that you find really creepy

When I look out of my window at the flat opposite I can see straight through their living room to a window which lets light in from their garden. When it's sunset I find this image really unsettling and eery.

I also get really creeped out by those pin and string pictures that were popular in the 70's:

What odd things spook you?

Those blimmin creepy pastry fingers on the Halloween Party food ad.

People putting stickers on my clothing (in fact anything sticky on wool makes me boak). Charity collectors get the sticker grabbed before there's a chance of it on my jumper.

Anyone changing contact lenses or poking at lenses in my presence.

Dark doorways ie open doorways to dark rooms, or uncovered windows at night - if DH comes back into the lit living room and leaves the door open to the dark dining room I just have to say "Dark square" and he goes and shuts it. Grin

DreamingAlice · 27/10/2014 15:16

Wet wool.
Rollercoasters.
The sound the drain makes with the bathwater slurping down.
Certain hotel rooms freak me out.

MrsFruitcake · 27/10/2014 15:32

Windmills, the modern type. Went on holiday and stayed in a gite last summer - didn't realise until we got there that there was one on a patch of land just behind the house. I didn't sleep properly the whole time we were there.

Grids at the bottom of swimming pools and pools empty of water. Both make me feel physically sick.

We live quite rurally and I often pretend that there's been an apocalypse whilst driving - you can go for miles and not see a soul. I can't stop myself from doing this. Watching Threads as a child may not have helped, and Th Walking Dead certainly doesn't now!

The creatures that live in caves, deep, dark, freezing cold caves. They never see daylight. They have no eyes, no ears. They are white or pale cream.

Or those evil little angler fish that have the 'light' to attract other creatures but they are transparent.

I try to imagine their day-to-day existance of dark and cold. Seems pitiful Sad and creepy
But their life would be unknown if people didn't go prying into their dark world

MrsFruitcake I thought I was the only, ahem, fruitcake who imagines living in a post-apocalyptic world. A few weeks ago I took the children for a walk in the late afternoon after we'd been indoors all day. We walked for blocks without seeing another soul and it was so quiet it was eerie. We live in quite a quiet neighborhood, and it was a very hot day so it's not really so surprising that everyone was indoors with their shutters closed and their air conditioning on, but an irrational part of me kept wondering if something had happened that I didn't know about. Creepy indeed.

We live in Oklahoma and every Saturday at noon they test the tornado warning sirens. So this air raid siren wail sounds across the city for two minutes or so and everyone just carries on with their business. Just a part of life for the locals but hugely unsettling to me, even though we've lived here for more than 18 months.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 27/10/2014 23:32

Do you toe-divider-avoiders all hate having anyone poke you in the belly button as well? It's a very similar (NAUSEATING AND HORRIBLE) feeling IMO.

BreadForBrains · 27/10/2014 23:50

The feel of a toe post in a flip flop makes me heave. I also don't like seeing anyone wearing them as the feeling rubs off on to me. Just horrible hollow rubbing feelings.
I don't know about belly buttons, I don't think that would bother me.

Springheeled · 28/10/2014 08:40

Thinking about hotel rooms, dark wood furniture and patterned carpets reminded me of sconces and candles in walls, and especially electric light fittings made to look like sconces! They put me in mind of medieval things...

grandtheftmanual · 28/10/2014 09:48

agree with so many of these - beans left in tin or on plates, getting into an unmade bed, being touched while I'm eating.

LondonRocks · 29/10/2014 00:12

Yes. The toe post thing is making me wrinkle my feet up.

Awful things. URGH.

Jennifer11 · 29/10/2014 19:23

Have read 8 pages so far and agree with 90% of them - I am officially a freak! Just another though - puppets or cartoons with an oversized head and little body. Creepy!

ILovedYouYesterday · 31/10/2014 13:57

letsleepingbabieslie

Totally with you on the toenails!

I have run from the bedroom in a panic many a time when DH has got out of the shower and started clipping his nails sat on the (closed!) toilet in the en-suite.

He has even attempted to have a conversation with me at the same time. Not. Going. To. Happen!!!!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 01/11/2014 23:39

I thought of another one.

When you are driving along and everyone in the car is laughing at a joke. OR there is a great song on and you are singing along to it.

I've seen too many films where people laughing / having a good time on a car journey was a prelude to Something Awful.

gemsio · 09/06/2015 22:33

bin juice. just put my bins out it nearly finished me off.

jimbob1969 · 22/01/2017 00:14

Looking down long corridors from one end into the open door of the at the other end. Flushing the loo at night after watching a creepy movie.
Doorbell ringing or knock on front door at night when you arent expecting anyone.

Aspiringcatlady · 22/01/2017 00:22

Broken pencils. Even writing that makes me want to vomit.

Aspiringcatlady · 22/01/2017 00:23

Oh, I'm also scared of people dresses as father Christmas. Decemeber is a nightmare for me.

Thinkingofausername1 · 23/11/2017 22:04

People in my personal space. Freaks me out Especially, when I am waiting to get a coffee or something.
I really have to bite my tongue sometimes; if the line isn’t moving then get out of my space!!

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 07/01/2018 00:51

Wind turbines. Seeing lots of small holes in close proximity to each other (think shower heads). The moon when it's full and at the point closest to the earth (looks freaking huge and it freaks me out!).

That's all very weird, I'll admit.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 07/01/2018 00:52

Oh, and touching polystyrene or the sound of polystyrene scraping together. Eurrch.

spitzma · 22/03/2018 23:32

Dishes that have been soaking too long.
