'Normal' things that you find really creepy

When I look out of my window at the flat opposite I can see straight through their living room to a window which lets light in from their garden. When it's sunset I find this image really unsettling and eery.

I also get really creeped out by those pin and string pictures that were popular in the 70's:

What odd things spook you?

Oh, and staring out of a window into darkness. I always think a face is going to pop up mm's from mine.

LaQueenIsKickingThroughLeaves · 22/10/2014 23:08

And, it's not just pillar boxes...empty, abandoned red phone boxes, too. Some are not quite what they seem...if you walk past one, on a deserted road, they want you to go inside...they're lonely, so very lonely and empty now - and they want you to stay inside them...forever...

NotOneThingbutAnother · 22/10/2014 23:09

Coming to this very late in the thread but I can't look for anything that's trapped behind a piece of furniture or under the bed. Massive panic attack - I think its a severe form of claustrophobia.

FrazzledFandangenstein · 22/10/2014 23:13

Lalalalalal not listening to LaQueen

That's true, Ginny. I get food poisoning/stomach bugs A LOT (4 times so far this year; I have a filthy one year old in nursery) and I have never ever held onto the rim of the toilet. Even if I'm too ill to hold my head up, I find the strength to support myself without touching the toilet bowl. And I have an obsessively clean toilet bowl too.

CheerfulYank · 22/10/2014 23:17

I can't stand storm drains either, but I've read It so it is not strange at all!

nicenewdusters · 22/10/2014 23:35

What remains of the green stalk at the top of a tomato when you cut it in half.....

Even typing this my hands are tingling at the thought. I have to cut it out, even cherry tomatoes, or I cannot bring myself to eat them. Thought I was alone in my weirdness until a friend told me about a website called Tomatoes are Evil !! Who knew ?

FelixFelix · 22/10/2014 23:37

Fabric rubbing against teeth. Good grief, it's making me feel ill just typing it.

Apparently my DP used to like chewing on a dry sponge when he was a child. Sickening Confused

valrhona · 22/10/2014 23:39

Those bar piercings that people get at the bottom of the neck, top of the back. They FREAK me out. And dreadlocks - especially on Caucasian people. urgh.......

Skinheadmermaid · 23/10/2014 00:00

long nails and false eyelashes make me cringe.

FelixFelix · 23/10/2014 00:06

Someone I used to work with used to get false toe nails put on Confused

FreudiansSlipper · 23/10/2014 00:13

Fantastic Mr Fox or an other Fox that is dressed as a human Foxy Bingo is scary. Recently read story to ds that was ok but the cover is terrifying he has binoculars in his paws wtf

Alice in Wonderland freaks me out it is a horrible story. Hated the book when I was young and clips of Tim Burtons version make me feel queasy.

Sweetasstevia · 23/10/2014 00:46

Yes I also hate the idea of very deep water and the odd creatures down there - the bit in Titanic when they go down to the wreck in that little pod thing.... Bleurgh

Two more which I think are unique to me (please correct me though I'd love not to be a total weirdo):

  1. Being touched between my breasts / in the centre of my chest (makes me imagine being stabbed there).

and
2) looking at very intricate things with sticky out bits - like circuit boards - I imagine the pin buts going into my eyes!!!! Yuck, yuck yuck!!!

Nope, on your own there. Definitely weird Grin

DramaQueenofHighCs · 23/10/2014 01:01

Yes yes to not being able to open curtains at night for fear of seeing a face at the window - when I had DS I got so freaked out by the curtain less windows in the maternity ward I was actually allowed to pull the screans round 1 1/2 sides of my bed so that I could sleep! Grin

DramaQueenofHighCs · 23/10/2014 01:03

Oh and the feel of non-varnished wood, especially when wet. I can't even hold a pencil without getting goose pimples so all my pencils are mechanical ones. Was so happy when I found mechanical colour pencils!

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/10/2014 01:15

the bits that grow out of old potatoes make me feel ill!

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/10/2014 01:16

the king in the burger king ad from a few years ago who just kept appearing!

alltoomuchrightnow · 23/10/2014 01:18

here he is... shudder!

tiredvommachine · 23/10/2014 01:18

Someone mentioned upthread about pylons. Yes yes! Don't like walking or driving past them. There was an advert years ago with a load of pylons marching across a field if I remember correctly and that scared the bejesus out of me.
Level crossings... Always scared that there is a train coming and the lights have got it wrong.

gothicpoodle · 23/10/2014 01:18

I find frog's creepy, always worry it's going to get tangled in my hair...
Dolls especially ones that talk, dd had one years ago that started talking during the night as the batteries where needing changed I hope but I got exh to put it in the bin as I was creeper out by it...
I agree with the mirror thing and I can't sleep with my feet out the covers.

mmgirish · 23/10/2014 01:30

I can't wear or touch velvet, velour or corduroy. I also can't sit or walk near anyone else who wears because I can hear it rubbing together and making the disgusting noise it makes....shudder....when I first met my Dh, he had a pair of cords and it was a them or me situation. He choose me! A colleague I don't know well gave a a bag of hand me downs for a my son last week and when I was looking through them I touched a velour babygro! It was awful, I had to wash my hands to get rid of the 'feeling'.

Also I can't sleep if wardrobe doors are open because that's where the monsters live.

DXBMermaid · 23/10/2014 05:37

People especially men using their middle finger to point something out instead of using their index finger. Freaks me out...

Bananas. The smell, the taste, the sound. Even just seeing them in the supermarket gives me the creeps.

Roomba · 23/10/2014 06:46

Swings. I feel like I am going to be sick if I look at anyone on a swing (my poor kids are used to me averting my eyes, thank god they can swing themselves these days).

Anything hanging/swinging actually. Had to leave a museum with a Foucault's Pendulum thing as I thought I would faint.

Slugs. I am getting to the point of a phobia of them now even though I know they are harmless.

Skin on sauces - bleurgh...

YY to the smell of food inside a fridge thing, I agree!

Miriama · 23/10/2014 07:12

Louvre doors, always think someone is behind them watching! The feel of cotton wool, uhh! Also a light green colour in a room walls always makes me feel a bit sick. Also faces at a window!

IdaBlankenGhostship · 23/10/2014 07:51
