Some of you may remember when I started an AMA thread called 'I'm a rockstar on hiatus'. I have actually been OFF hiatus for quite a while and have been very busy.

I'm considering publishing my experience in the music industry. I'm making notes about what people want to know. So do you have any burning questions?

Just stumbled across these threads and spent the last two hours reading everything 😆

Can a middle aged woman find a job in the industry with no experience (or talent) at all? Asking for a friend!

Ahhh thanks for returning!!! I think I posted on your last thread, for some reason I thought you were a member of Supergrass or the Kaiser Chiefs but I have no idea.

Just wondering are you happier now you're mad busy?

Any song I recommend will be used as a clue as to who I am. So I'm going to pick something very obscure that I love. And definitely gives no clues about me.

Life is completely different in so many ways compared to when I went on hiatus. There is simply no comparison. I can only say that I love being on stage. I'd do it for free. But don't tell my record label I said that.

I'm a serial lurker on all platforms, I don't like to get involved in the commentary. This thread is the exception. After a dispute with a neighbour over being blocked in, you may find me lurking in a parking thread, only if there's a diagram.

If you had to go back and advise your 21 year old self, what would you tell them? In the light of what you know now about the industry.

The parking threads? Where hope goes to die? (The parking dickheads are always BU and they never will change, OP's can only 'win' by moving house) never have I seen one play out any differently.
But have you seen the 'Neighbours Trees' ones?
OP moves into a lovely house, partly lovely because neighbours have beautiful mature trees. Op's newly installed hot-tub's cover occasionally gathers leaves from the fore mentioned trees, therefore feels it's entirely appropriate that neighbours should be forced to raze them to the ground immediately.

The clues you give suggest that you are a little older and very experienced in your industry.

How do you cope with the loss of so many people within the industry to things like suicide, drugs and alcohol that you are friends with or know?

Do you mentor any younger musicians?

Are you a particular fan of a specific song on “Heathen”? Hi!?

I can’t imagine they are American where did Sheffield come from? I thought it was Oaul Heaton when you were all saying Yorkshire but I doubt he has the time as he’s always touring.

I know people whose lives have almost been destroyed by addiction. What happens is, every night on tour there is alcohol on the rider. Have a couple of drinks. Tomorrow night. Couple of drinks. And the next night and so on and so forth. Day off? A few extra drinks. If that tour is 4-6 weeks or longer, well. Now you have an addiction. Same for drugs, cigarettes or whatever the vice. When they get home, they can't function without it. Then it spirals. It's a very long slippery slope down to the gutter.

You've talked about addiction above which is interesting to me as I'm in early sobriety (though sadly not a rockstar hehe). Are there many people in your industry who successfully manage sobriety from alcohol? Have you ever found it problematic yourself (if that's not too personal to ask)?
