We are coming in August (to Copenhagen) - any recommendations for a reasonably priced place to eat. What specialities should we try? Apart from Danish pastries obviously 😜

Nha Trang at Rantzausgade, Nørrebro. Our favorite local spot!

Yes, by all means try the pastries - and an ice cream as well (cones are much nicer than elsewhere!)

I'll do a life swap with you, OP! You can come and live in the Midlands and I'll come and live in Copenhagen. You don't live in Frederiksberg by any chance do you.... 😉

I've heard Copenhagen is the happiest city in the world! Do you agree and why do think it is?

I think it is for some people. Stable and good living conditions, high quality of life etc. Access to nature, the city is big enough to feel international, but still small and easy to navigate.

If you lost your job would dagpenge cover your rent?

I think so, yes - we live in an "andelslejlighed" so fairly low monthly rent.

I tried very hard to understand the game with the wooden blocks that everyone plays in the parks. I watched and watched...but still I didn't understand. Do you understand it?

I do - or at least I used to! But I haven't played it in a long time...

It is called Kubb or Kongespil.

How much public support do the Danish Royal Family enjoy? Are people generally pro-monarchy? What was the response to the recent demotion of Prince Joachim's children?

Is there a rule in Copenhagen around Air BnB’s? I have been looking for one for a visit to Copenhagen and they all seem to be family homes, with all their clothes in wardrobes, kids toys lying about etc.

I really have no idea, sorry. But I think a few areas tend to regulate - in my building renting out via Air BnB is not allowed.

Hej! Also a Copenhagener! Although originally from England and been here 2.5y.

My (genuine!) Q is do Danes find the long winters as rough as us expats or are we just utter wusses 😁

Do you still have that beautifully moving statue of a drowning mother and her children (I think) under water (near a bridge)?

I lived in Copenhagen for a year back in the 90’s and loved it! I really should go back.

Do you still have Netto Bikes?!

Is it Agnete & Havmanden, the underwater sculpture in the canals, you are thinking of? I think the sculpture is still there, but it is overgrown and hard to see. It is based on an old folk tale about a lady who went to live with a Merman but ended up leaving him and all their children behind as she went back to live on the ground again.

Oh, and no Netto Bikes anymore - but lots of other rental city bikes :-)

@DaneMum We have been back in UK for a year after 20 months in Copenhagen. Had a villa in Amager. I miss it- !! I've often given tips on here about it- my biggies are that it's really in my opinion eating out and drinking out that are expensive but there are other good more affordable options - Reffen, Broens (both of these great for teens as well as adults) Tivoli food hall,

I especially miss Bakken - what a gorgeous place and that coastal run (we had a leased car) From Helsingborg down to Copenhagen !! And I really miss Dragor on a lovely
Sunny day

I think a lot of people don't realise it has white sandy beaches too along the coast both North and south of Copenhagen

Sounds lovely! I don't know Amager very well but yes, definitely lots of nice beaches both north and south of Copenhagen.

Sounds great! Let us do that one day :-)

I live in Nørrebro - but actually Frederiksberg is just at the other side of our street :-)

Central Copenhagen is pretty diverse. Lots of tourists from all over the world. Some people can be a bit annoyed at tourists, but that's a general thing I'd say :-)

There is definitely some racism/prejudice towards other cultures in some areas of the country.

I think most people respect the Queen and are okay with the Crown Prince and Crown Princess. I do not think most people have a very strong opinion on monarchy to be honest - it is just how it is.... :-)

But people really don't like when there are arguments going on in the Royal Family and Joakim is seen whining and getting angry at his mother - then sympathy for the monarchy is decreasing.

Hello fellow Copenhagener!

I think we are just used to the long winters... they really can be depressing, but the summers do make up for it!

@Clementine8 the scandic Fredericksburg is nice - it's a lovely leafy area, big mall, lots of cafes and independent shops but quiet at night as out the centre - but still only a couple of stops on metro.

Monkmeister · 09/06/2023 21:37

Scandics are always pretty decent

Mercurial123 · 09/06/2023 21:45

Scandic Norreport is good value. There are only 9 stops on the metro from the airport. It has a roof top bar, which is popular with the locals and is reasonably priced.

😁😁 to be fair, even I can admit that the spring and summer so make up for winter, they are incredible! I go to Nordhavn station every morning and it’s so gorgeous watching the sun in the morning!
