According to Russian propaganda the West wants to keep Russia as a cash cow due to its resources but doesn’t want it to have any significant impact on world politics. By West I mean mainly US.

Is there not a grain of truth in that? Could ‘The West’ not have done more to build a real partnership with Russia in the 90s after the collapse of the USSR?

WuTangGran · 24/11/2022 19:37

Was Lev Yashin better than Gordon Banks?

😂

The answer is Yashin btw.

Lilly, why do Russians seem to not like smiling when getting their picture taken?

And do you agree that the Russian national anthem is the most epic of all anthems?

Twilightstarbright · 24/11/2022 20:17

@IntentionalError if you are in London there’s a great Georgian restaurant I can recommend.

LillyCandC · 24/11/2022 20:18

@LaQuern it’d be very surprised! I don’t think Putin’s Russia has resources enough for any other invasions

@Oblomov22 a good guess! I forgot about this one! @CinnamonSodaPop was it makoviy tort? attuale.ru/makovyj-tort-7-ochen-vkusnyh-retseptov/

привет OP!

You have no need to feel embarrassed OP. Those of us with any critical thinking skills know that a lot of Russians are not in support of Putin and that a lot of what we're hearing is propaganda. What decent people would want to send their husbands and sons to war? This is Putin's war.

Sending prayers that this is all over soon.

AdoraBell · 24/11/2022 20:19

Do you miss your country and would you return?

I lived overseas and didn’t want to return to the UK, the move was necessary, but I still miss the country we made home.

Robin233 · 24/11/2022 20:45

A good friend of mine travel through part of Russia.
Absolutely loved it and found the people wonderfully friendly despite , in some cases, a language barrier , was able to communicate very well.
So thanks for this thread OP.

LillyCandC · 24/11/2022 20:57

@IntentionalError I believe there are a lot of powers at play that we don’t fully understand, that’s why it’s politics.

@AdoraBell i don’t think I will - there’s nothing to return to in my case. My kids don’t speak any Russian, neither does my husband. My family are friends are now all over the world. I may miss a few things but there’re past now and just memories. Which country do you miss?

What is your conversation experience with Ukrainian refugees here? Have you met any? What is their reaction to you being Russian?

LillyCandC · 24/11/2022 21:08

@Twilightstarbright ooh, thanks for the recommendation! I’ll make sure to visit next time I’m in London!

@Robin233 thats it!Not all Russians are as bad as Daily Mail makes it seem like. I’m glad your friend had a good experience and I’m glad you’re enjoying this thread.

What is the “Russian body” A Russian student in the secondary school where I work has told me she aspires to this.

LillyCandC · 24/11/2022 21:14

@Timide i haven’t really spoken to any of Ukrainian refugees here. I have many Ukrainian friends who moved here long before the war has started and they post many really harsh things on social media along the lines “russians go duck yourselves” I know it’s not being directed at me but their anger is directed at Russian soldiers. I just try not to be too awkward by being sheepish and just talk to them like we always did.

OP posts:
Timide · 24/11/2022 21:15

And does it work? Or have you lost some friends?

LillyCandC · 24/11/2022 21:17

@GladysGeorgina don’t know really. Back in 2000 it was stick thin model kind of thing, recently it was more like gym bunny body. Generally Russian girls are spending a lot of money and time eradicating cellulite and being as thin as humanly possible.

@LillyCandC

Hi OP. Thanks for your thread… unfortunately I do not have the benefit of knowing any Russian people in real life. I do follow Ukrainian / Russian ( controversial ) ballet dancer Sergei Polunin on social media. What has struck me in comments made by Russians on his social media is the insistence that we in the West are brainwashed and people in Russia are told the truth. That our media is corrupt but there’s is not. Now I’m happy to consider that our media is biased or corrupt but find it startling that they would be so convinced that there’s is free of bias. Do you think this is a genuinely held belief? ( the language is very grand and jingoistic).

(Ive been to that Georgian restaurant by the way )

Teensandfuture · 24/11/2022 21:20

OP, you speak five languages, claim you're half Ukrainian..how come you didn't list Ukrainian as a language you speak?

LillyCandC · 24/11/2022 21:20

@Timide no, I haven’t lost any Ukrainian friends. I had more fallouts with my Russian friends back home. Although, I have to admit we haven’t housed any Ukrainian refugees in my house for the fear of them being triggered by the fact that I’m Russian. Otherwise I would have loved to help.
