Do you mix with Spanish people?

OldHip · 27/12/2021 18:40

Ah, nice, glad that's worked for you. Tbh the health system was one of the reasons I wanted to go there but now us Brits won't be able to access it. Do you think it's the end of Brits retiring there on modest pensions? Can't see as the Spanish would be terrifically fussed about losing them but it sure is a shame for us.

Mejillones · 27/12/2021 18:41

We applied for and completed the Residencia process before Brexit.
We own a small property.

Do you spend most your time in levante or the old town ?

Mejillones · 27/12/2021 18:48

We are currently learning Spanish it's a slow process, but so far we have not starved, froze and have been able to access the basic services.
We try an use local Spanish shops, markets and services when ever possible.

Do you still plan to move on from Benidorm? If so where?

And do they speak to you in English?
Ohshittt · 27/12/2021 18:50

@Mamamamasaurus

Do you come back to the UK for doctors appointments and prescriptions?
Would it not cost more to do this than pay in Spain? 🤔
Mejillones · 27/12/2021 18:56

We gravitate towards the old town and La Cala.
Also we use the shops and services in Alfas and Albir.
My DH does a sport that is a mixture of English and Spanish.

Just wanted to hop in and say well done, you.

We were pleasantly surprised by Benidorm; we (pre Covid 🤔) used to holiday in rented villas in Orba, Monte Pego, and Altea; with lots of day trips to places like Benidorm.

I think the area's 'reputation' is out of date and doesn't reflect how it is today.

I'd be there in a shot!

Mejillones · 27/12/2021 19:01

Of course we dont return to the UK for Drs appointments and prescriptions, we have paid for a service here that covers everything.

What’s the weather like?

Mejillones · 27/12/2021 19:10

To access most services such as shopping, garages buying furniture and arranging deliveries a basic Spanish does suffice.
I find I can read it better than speaking but i always try and order in Spanish.

Yes the plan is eventually to move on.
But I have settled here very well, so it might be a while.
I like Altea and further north in the area of Ondara and Denia.

Do you find the mobility scooters to be a menace?

We visited several years ago and I kept having to take the double buggy into the road because the scooters took up the pavement!

Mejillones · 27/12/2021 19:14

Currently the weather is very good.
About 22 today.
Up to Christmas it is quite mild, usually colder in Jan and Feb.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/12/2021 19:15

It’s quite tempting I have to say. I hate the cold.

Mejillones · 27/12/2021 19:16

I agree Frodian its reputation is very outdated.

Are you planning to become Spanish citizens?.

TheDuchessOfMN · 27/12/2021 19:19

Do you have children, and do they live in the UK?

itspartytime · 27/12/2021 19:24

Alcalali is lovely, Denia good too if you like the beach. Do you think you'll ever relocate to uk again ?

Mejillones · 27/12/2021 19:26

The mobility scooters are a feature, however currently they are being used more wisely.

Spanish citizenship is an option for the future.
Currently all our plans are for Spain but who knows what the future holds.
