NC for this as I remained anonymous, which was fairly pointless as I did tell some family and friends and it spread from there.

Sigh. I play every week and spend more time than I’d like to admit daydreaming about being able to buy a house with an actual garden for my 1 year old.

My dad has been playing for decades and the most he won was £80!

As they say, you’ve gotta be in it to win it!

ssd · 15/06/2021 21:14

Congratulations @NCuserer, and you sound well grounded

Can i ask a basic question..do you think money makes you happy?

MondayYogurt · 15/06/2021 21:14

Do you ever wake up and forget that it happened, then remember?

Is there anything you regret buying?

HTH1 · 15/06/2021 21:14

I have a question: did you give your grabby Dad anything in response to his demands for millions?

2. MN staffer post shared to keep the board humming and the ad revenue

LOLOLOLOLOL. Oh honey. You must be new here. MN staff do not have to start threads 'to keep the board humming'. That's about the funniest thing I've ever heard in my 18 years here.

RubixRubicon · 15/06/2021 21:18

That sounds incredible OP. I wish I’d read this earlier, I would have bought a ticket! I hope you thoroughly enjoy every penny, and with your lovely DS too.

FurrySlipperBoots · 15/06/2021 21:24

When your son is old enough for uni, will you fund swanky private accommodation or have him stay in shabby shared student digs so he experiences 'the real world'?

RichPetunia · 15/06/2021 21:30

Congratulations. I don’t have any questions just wanted to say that you seem very deserving of the win. Your son’s life has been enhanced in so many ways and that must be very satisfying. Good luck to you (no pun intended😄).

Shoefleur · 15/06/2021 21:32

How do you explain your wealth to people or are they always too polite to enquire?

candle18 · 15/06/2021 21:34

Can I ask what you tell your new friends about why you don’t need to work but obviously have money to go on good holidays etc.

Ah which lotto did you play?
I've spent so much on lottery tickets to be honest, I know it's mostly a pipe dream as the odds are so rare.
Heard the thunderball you are more likely to get a prize.. I only play once a month now though.

Roussette · 15/06/2021 21:44

OP, can I ask..even though you don't have a Financial Adviser, do you have an Accountant and a Tax Adviser.?
Stuff like this gets complicated the more money you have especially if you are renting out luxury properties in Europe.

Terriblecreature · 15/06/2021 21:45

You honestly sound so grounded. It is lovely to hear. You clearly deserved this and you can tell just how much you love and cherish your son.
If this ever happened to me I would love to be the same but not sure I would. I would imagine I would end up quite vulgar with a few spoiled brats Confused

Hopefully just the finger! 🤣🖕🏻
COPPER3 · 15/06/2021 21:49

I have to say that if i was lucky enough to win 14mil, I would certainly be paying all of my nearest and dearest mortgages off. Then I would open a school in Africa and do heartfelt things like that. I dream of winning a million pounds to be able to help my family, but 14mil!! Cripes! You have been very blessed and it sounds like you have kept grounded and sensible and are clearly enjoying it! I still would be helping my family members with more than a deposit for a car though! I guess I sound a little green-eyed... I do buy a Lottery ticket each week in hope and think that it is going to good causes too!

helpmewiththispleez · 15/06/2021 21:54

So do you live off the interest and you're saving the 10 million you have left?

I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of the rentals if I didn't really need the income. If I had a holiday home I'd prefer to have it so only I stayed and not have it ruined by other guests, although I suppose that could cause security issues if it's always empty.

I am impressed you didn't give money away due to certain people in your family due to FOG. I feel like I would feel obliged to give to family members who have been unkind, when I know they wouldn't even remember my name if they won. I was brought up to think family matters.

I was reading how a friend on Facebook didn't have any money. I know she buys designer this and that and takeaways galore, but if I had anything to give, I would of sent it to her lottery win or not , because she's a lovely single mum to her two kids. I would find it so hard not to help people if I won.

HitsAndMrs · 15/06/2021 21:56

You sound like such a lovely person and deserve it after working so hard and raising your son. Enjoy every minute of it.

userxx · 15/06/2021 21:56

This is a great thread, you sound so likeable and grounded.

HitsAndMrs · 15/06/2021 21:57

I'm a physio, well just qualified, anything similar?

bollihigh · 15/06/2021 21:59

@NakedNugget you must have had the stamina for 16 pages. Good point.

If you want groundhog day ...

Blackkswann · 15/06/2021 22:00

When you meet new people and they ask what you do for a living what do you say? Do they question how you have so much money but don’t work? So happy for you this is my dream!
