Just that. I now have a 2mm all over look after years of my minimum length being midway up my back!

Why did you do it?
I had a shaved head for much of my early twenties. I loved it, but it was a bugger to grow out.
Are you going to post a picture?

CrystalDeCanter · 09/05/2020 03:14

Are you drunk?

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/05/2020 03:18

Hmm. I was wondering if alcohol was involved!
When I shaved mine I had short hair to start with, so it wasn't that much of a shock. To go from long to shaved is quite a change.

memememoi · 09/05/2020 03:23

Are you married/partnered? What do/will they think? Do you care what people think?

I've buzzed my hair off before to grow out damaged hair I loved it. Naturally everyone thought I had gone mad/had a breakdown.

The freedom of not having to do my hair was liberating!!

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/05/2020 03:31

Why do people start these things and then not come back?

memememoi · 09/05/2020 03:38

@ElizabethMainwaring let's keep it going till OP gets back m. How long did it take yours to grow out? What's your hair like now

theGirlWithManyFaces · 09/05/2020 03:41

Reminds me of that episode of friends where Rachel convinced Ross' GF to shave her head. Did a jealous ex give you a pep talk beforehand under the disguise of stealing your man Grin

iswhois · 09/05/2020 03:45

Ok so I did it because it was always something I wanted to do. Tonight I finally thought screw it and just went with it. Plus my hair has been a pain to maintain for the last 5 years with expensive highlights and cuts that I'm never happy with, I just wanted to start afresh.

My husband actually shaved it off for me! He isn't keen on the look but he is happy because I'm happy.

I'm working on pictures!

Ok @memememoi!
It took about a year to get it about three inches long in a decent style. Like a pixie cut. The trouble was that when it was growing it looked so disheveled and messy, so I'd cave in and shave it all off again. I got mistaken for Sinead O'Connor a lot. I still look a lot like her now she has got fat like me!
My hair is now shoulder length and very boring. My hair is not my best feature. Last year I was seriously considering getting extensions. I thank God that I didn't now. That would add another level of bother to the current awfulness!
Now tell me about your hair!

I think it's sweet your husband helped!!

What about family/friends? Work colleagues?? What do you think their reactions will be like?

iswhois · 09/05/2020 03:53

Family all love it

Work colleagues we will see, I work in the public sector so it's quite a liberal setting, plus it's not a public facing role.

Ooh! It is long! Can't wait to see it now!
You will feel very strange for a while. You'll still try to do things with your hair, like go to hold it out of the way when you brush your teeth.
You will feel the cold too. I had to wear a hat in bed sometimes.

memememoi · 09/05/2020 04:03

@ElizabethMainwaring my hair was below shoulders but severely damaged from dyes and straightening. I then got a chemical straighter (perm/relaxer) and it made my hair dry even more damaged.

So I first used scissors to trim damage then thought fk it and got clippers and buzzed it off completely.

My hair is naturally curly/wavy and I initially planned to grow it out but once it got past 10" or so I'd cut it, not buzz but to about 3/4"

I loved that length so much.

Now, my hair is about
16" when stretched out so past my shoulders but due to the natural curl it looks about
12ish ??

I love to brush it out into a massive fro but I just pineapple it most days as it's less hassle

memememoi · 09/05/2020 04:08

@iswhois do you think you will keep it short long term?

iswhois · 09/05/2020 04:10

So yeah this is it now. All I can say so far is I feel really excited just to start afresh and try out a new look for myself!

Your hair sounds lovely @memememoi
I love curly hair. My dream hair would be lots of long ginger curls.

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/05/2020 04:12

Well done op! It looks great!

memememoi · 09/05/2020 04:12

@iswhois I love it!!

iswhois · 09/05/2020 04:13

@Memememoi I really don't know. I've had my hair long for soooo many years now it's different to envisage me with any other hair cut (although I kind of have to now ha)

I guess I will just have to wait and see how I feel in the coming days! I think I would probably like to get it to at least ear length and then wear it slicked back as I've always loved that look

OP posts:
iswhois · 09/05/2020 04:14

Thanks guys! Still feeling a bit in shock, but it's just hair!

memememoi · 09/05/2020 04:14

@ElizabethMainwaring thank you.

Is your hair ginger? Did your friends/fam/partner make any comments when you shaved yours?

memememoi · 09/05/2020 04:17

@iswhois yesss!! That's what I used to love doing when it grew out a bit. Slicked back and sometimes finger waves.

Short hair and hoops/big earrings is such a look!!

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/05/2020 04:20

No, my hair is greying mid brown dyed mahogany.
My friends and boyfriend loved it. It did look good though I must admit. I was very thin and pretty then. My mom didn't like it but admitted that it suited me and grew to like it. Strangers would compliment me on it, especially a lot of elderly ladies! I wish I could carry it off now.
(Please don't say try it, because I know that I definitely couldn't!)

iswhois · 09/05/2020 04:21

@Memememoi I'm so excited for that look eventually!!!

But for now I'm just excited about washing my hair tomorrow and not having use a shed load of products and brush/tear it out afterwards!!! GrinGrinGrin
