It's 9 am and I am drinking a double vodka in my pjamas.

No.I wish! I finished work at 7 am, and it was a hard shift. I got home about 8:15 and was a bit too addled to go straight to bed. (Sorry,boring I know)!

No I'm not an alcoholic at all. 3 glasses of wine and I am on the floor . I did used to be a carer for an alcoholic however. I am still friends with them and they're doing okay now :)

mystery neither really. I work in first response for the emergency services, It's been very busy, and a lot of quite sad calls. You are numb to it after a while but I am only human. :)

My friend used to do this after a night shift. She was a sister in ICU. I was Shock but she doesn't appear to be a problem drinker. She said it was no different to someone cracking a beer open at 6pm

You work night shift therefore have your downtime in the morning then go o bed?

Whilst others have downtime in the evening then go to bed.

The latter being more socially accepted by the vast majority.

dona I guess it isn't really. If someone isn't drink dependent does it make any difference what time they choose to drink when they do?

Its something I questioned recently for a completely unrelated reason, alcohol 'rules'.. I know people who live alone who relax with a small glass of wine every evening for example... And people who get drunk at the pub every night to the point where they'll likely still be over the limit driving to work of an A.M. Yet guidelines say drinking alone is the bad thing..

miconnes yes, I have never been one to bend to social convention.Working shifts messes life up a bit but if I got home at 7pm and had a glass of wine with dinner nobody would bat an eyelid.

Wonkydonk I have no bread left unfortunately, I had a small portion of leftover pasta and a bag of salt and vinegar rice cakes rock 'n roll :)

frazzy They're all completely different. To me I think it depends on who you are. For example taking a murder cal , or a rape call ,a suicidal caller- I can be calm on those-some colleagues will have to take a breather on those. I get upset with calls about missing children from children's homes, drug addicts, domestics. Tonight was full of those

Gimme I had some 'naice' lemonade left over from xmas! I love cranberry but I never drink fizzy drinks other than water usually so I am enjoying that.

user I think I cope fairly well with nights and late shifts. I struggle with the very early start ones. I just cannot go to sleep early and wake early. We're all differentI I guess.-I find it easy to sleep during the day. I can see why others don't. I read somewhere that early man would employ a 'night watcher' to keep awake all night and thats why some of us are 'morning people' and some are 'night people'. I realise that's likely a load of bollocks but I still quote it and say I must've been that person when we evolved :)

wonky nice to hear from someone who did similar. :) I suspect (well, know!) a lot of my colleagues do the same. If I had white wine I would but unfortunately I didn't predict the need and don't have any.

kissing thank you. It's a decent job and quite rewarding. But I totally understand it isn't for everyone. A lot of the people I trained with left after not long.
It's even worse than smirnoff. A supermarket brand! It was left to me after I had my ex's kids (all adult age!) here before xmas. Having said that I appreciate decent vodka but if I have a decent mixer, I can cope Wink .
