Have you ever had someone ask for help because they are allergic to petrol? I have this allergy.

headinhands · 17/07/2018 23:34

Troll hunting? On a 'AMA I work in a petrol station' thread! I've now seen it all.

Zephyrsinskyatnight · 17/07/2018 23:35

Ever been held up and robbed?

AskingForAnEnemy · 17/07/2018 23:35

What sort of things do people ask for that you don't stock?

Good question! We have a decent sized shop so stock most things but recently I've had people ask if we have hair brushes, certain types of cigarettes, walnuts and piriton and we don't have those (We have most brands of cigarettes but some people will ask for brands I've never even heard of)

No, I've never come across this. Mostly people who ask for our help are elderly people who either can't open the fuel cap or just can't manage to put the fuel in

Headinhands i assume your referring to me because I made a comment disagreeing with something the op wrote based on my personal experience. I wrote it because I did feel that it gave the poster who was asking a true reflection

AskingForAnEnemy · 17/07/2018 23:40

Ever been held up and robbed?

Thankfully not but I admit that when I took the job one of the first things I thought was "what if there's an armed robbery" 🙈

Point graciously taken imaging*. Apologies.

Saffzy · 17/07/2018 23:42

Do you work on your own? Do you enjoy your job?

AskingForAnEnemy · 17/07/2018 23:44

I know lol if I was going to lie about where I worked I'd at least chose somewhere a bit more glamourous than a petrol station

I wrote it because I did feel that it gave the poster who was asking a true reflection

That's fine, in your experience you've had loads of drive offs, but in mine it's rare to have many deliberate ones. I'm not lying about it, the poster asked and I answered honestly from my own experience working in a petrol station

So what happens if people do genuinely do a bit of shopping and forget to pay for their fuel and drive away?

headinhands · 17/07/2018 23:47

Have you got a crush on any of your regulars?

AskingForAnEnemy · 17/07/2018 23:48

Do you work on your own?

No, we always have at least 4 members of staff on a shift, sometimes more. We are quite busy all day

Do you enjoy your job

I actually really do, I'm a People person though, I like to talk, so I like working on the tills serving customers

We check the cctv and take down all the car details and description of the person. If it's somebody local we basically just wait til they come back in and tell them, if not it gets passed on to head office and they deal with it

I always panic that I will fill up and either have forgotten my bank card or card is randomly declined. Does that happen and if so whats the process?

Imagingerbreadman · 17/07/2018 23:51

If you think this is trolling then fair enough. I never said you were lying just maybe don’t realise how common it can actual be, sorry if I didn’t articulate myself well enough. Tbh cba arguing over this

AskingForAnEnemy · 17/07/2018 23:52

Yes haha there's one or two that are just gorgeous who come in every day! But I'm happily married so I just enjoy the view lol.

Tbh cba arguing over this not to sound 9 years old but you started it.

No sorry. This is all my fault. You're clearly not. You did articulate it well enough but I'm hot and tired.

AskingForAnEnemy · 17/07/2018 23:56

It happens a lot. What we do is log it down on our till as a "No means to pay" then we take all your details, car details etc then we get you to sign a form to say that you will come back within the next 24 hours to pay.

But they didn't! I did because I leapt to conclusions without actually properly reading. Sorry everyone, Ima, op, MN, Zeus etc.

headinhands · 17/07/2018 23:59

Op. Do you ever fill up at a rival petrol station and have customers asking you where the milk is etc when you're browsing in the shop?

lonelyatchristmas · 18/07/2018 00:03

OP isn't it such a dose looking for the drive off.. we used to have to find it then contact the police and let them do it... we used get a fair few or they'd come in and say I've filled my car but have no money can I come back... it was unreal.. I saw things on that forecourt that I'll never see again it was mental...

Imagingerbreadman · 18/07/2018 00:03

Head in hands let’s just forget it move on. When I do something o can get quite passionate about it (ino that’s quite sad when talking about Petrol stations) but reading this thread u was answering the questions too myself and that one just stuck out to me as not true in my experience so that’s why I commented.

AskingForAnEnemy · 18/07/2018 00:03

I fill up at Sainsbury's because it's cheaper lol nobody has ever mistook me for a Sainsbury's employee
