Following the recent "ask me anything" thread frenzy, I thought I'd put this out there Grin

Starlightjazz I'll pm you my lasagne recipe

IrmaFayLear well seeing as the majority of Italians pet for the government, the first time since 2011 that the vote has been respected here, I'd say that those who are against it were happy with the government that protected the banks and gave 2 fingers up to the population.

derxa I don't know if they hate tourists but they like to smile at non Italian speakers and say nasty things. They usually deny it when you call them out in Italian. Ime it's usually affluent teenagers whomthinkmthey are gods gift.

ElinorCadwaller
Grate ice (or blitz it in the blender) make your espresso and add sugar.....simples.

I'm currently making a lemoncello and strawberry sponge cake for as party at school tomorrow

ElinorCadwaller · 02/07/2018 18:13

Amalfimamma oh that's an excellent bodge, I'll get on to it

PinotAndPlaydough · 02/07/2018 19:36

Amalfimamma please can I have that lasagne recipe too?

How bad is the attitude towards disabled people. We are considering a family holiday to Pulia next year but my husband has a very obvious physical disability. Would it cause problems?

Camomila · 02/07/2018 19:40

pinot Honestly, I think most people would be nice and helpful but a bit patronising. Infrastructure isn’t great, but I noticed last time I went to Milan there are now wheelchair ramps on the metro so things are improving.

Starlightjazz · 02/07/2018 21:40

Thank you Amal :)

CraftyGin · 19/07/2018 21:16

How do you feel about corruption in daily life in Italy?

Mookie81 · 19/07/2018 21:51

What’s your favourite swear word in Italian? Mine is ‘cazzo’ - so many ways to use it Grin and it just sounds great!

Onecutefox · 20/07/2018 10:12
  • I have found Italian shop assistants to be impatient and thus impolite. One was rude and rolled his eyes. Another one didn't like me trying to choose a better quality towel. Don't know if it is down to older generation only.
  • I have also noticed that on the road it can be a total chaos with cars and pedestrians.
  • Many building are in a sad state. So beautiful but looks like nobody has been looking after them for many years.
  • Is it common for the Italians to teach a foreigner how to eat/cook? I find it a bit rude and I cook well.
  • What do you think of Capri so loved by foreigners?
IrmaFayLear · 20/07/2018 11:01

"Is it common for the Italians to teach a foreigner how to eat/cook?"

Interesting one. I have found this too and bristled accordingly! I think there is quite a bit of one up(wo)manship about cooking, and I have lost count of the meatballs/lasagne I have been presented with at various people's houses as being "this the best one". (Many have been truly awful; we here are used to "runny" lasagna but I have had a number you have to carve .)

Some time ago they had a Big Brother in Italy with older people. The women were coming to blows in the kitchen over who was doing the cooking/who did the best x, y and z.

ScrumpyCrack · 20/07/2018 11:22

Ah I’m obsessed with Italy so very happy to have found this!!!!

  1. Do you have a carbonara recipe? The best I’ve ever had has been in Veneto.
  1. What do you wash you hair with?
Epic generalisation but every Italian woman I see has the most beautiful shiny and healthy looking hair Grin

Glad the ‘prego’ question was answered. I got stuck in a prego-off with a shop assistant whilst in Firenze. She said grazie, I said prego, then she replied prego so I said it again then she said it again and then before I knew it several months had passed and we were still stood in the shop saying prego . Now I know she was saying please go ahead and so she’s won.

And so agree re North South
Although it’s rough around the edge I actually prefer the southern ethos now

It’s earthier and less itself and I prefer the food ! Much lighter and healthier 🍅

3 weeks to go !
