Following the recent "ask me anything" thread frenzy, I thought I'd put this out there Grin

No takers for Italians then...

Ribrabrob · 01/07/2018 16:04

Do you live in the U.K.? What are the main differences between lifestyle in the U.K. And Italy?

Starlightjazz · 01/07/2018 16:13

Do you have a good recipe for tomato pasta sauce, please? I love Italian food and culture! :)

Milfromhades · 01/07/2018 16:15

Would you be offended if I pronounce it as Eye-talian or eye-tye for short?

AHaAHa · 01/07/2018 16:18

What do you eat? We're always being told the Mediterranean diet is better than what we lardy Brits scoff so what is healthy about your diet.

NotTakenUsername · 01/07/2018 16:19

No

joopy79 · 01/07/2018 16:20

How do you say 'blast off' in Italian? Asking for my son

ToadOfSadness · 01/07/2018 16:21

Why do you shout so much?

ToadOfSadness · 01/07/2018 16:22

As a nation that is, not necessarily you personally.

"Do you live in the U.K.? What are the main differences between lifestyle in the U.K. And Italy?"

Yes I live in London. I'd say the main difference in terms of lifestyle IMO is that in Italy there is generally more social interaction. In Italy most people devote a huge chunk of their day to interacting with other people. The Brits are more reserved I think. Moreover, socializing revolves around food in Italy, while it mostly revolves around alcohol in the UK.

Go Away!

"What do you eat? We're always being told the Mediterranean diet is better than what we lardy Brits scoff so what is healthy about your diet."

In my experience Italians eat a lot more fresh ingredients and better quality food. I was shocked with the prevalence of ready meals when I first moved to the UK. I also think (and I am ready to be flamed) that many people in the UK have zero education in terms of nutrition, while in Italy you sort or absorb the basic notions from your grandparents and parents while growing up.

The amount of times I have seen "sausages and jack potatoes" listed as a healthy, light meal on Mumsnet Shock

"How do you say 'blast off' in Italian? Asking for my son"

Esplodere as a verb, esplosione as a noun.

"Why do you shout so much?"

I genuinely wonder every time I am back in Italy. I am guilty of shouting myself when I am tipsy/ drunk though... Blush

Corrected for you. My mum is Italian.

Butterflycookie · 01/07/2018 20:05

Have you been to the amalfi coast? If you have, would you recommend?Smile

......I really want to go to positano!

SubtitlesOn · 01/07/2018 20:07

Are your family from the south or north?

Camomila · 01/07/2018 20:07

Ciao!

How often do you eat pasta? I read in a magazine once that 60% of Italians eat pasta everyday. I'm Italian too but only eat pasta every 2/3 days. I have found a few people men that eat pasta every day for lunch.

......I really want to go to positano!"

I have been, and I would honestly recommend Sicily, Apulia and Sardinia over the Amalfi Coast..

"Are your family from the south or north?"

I grew up in the North-East, the region is called Veneto.

You beat me to it - I was going to post a thread saying I am half Italian (my Mum was from Rome) ask me anything Grin.

I definitely used to eat pasta everyday when I lived in Italy. Now, after having lived abroad for a decade or so, I eat pasta maybe once a week. No change in my weight or size though.

Thanks for answering my question. I adore Italy and am fascinated by the culture.

What do you miss about Italy?
Would you say Italians are generally more friendly than British people?
What made you move to the U.K.? Do you miss the beautiful Italian landscape?

Lilylo · 01/07/2018 20:49

What do you miss about Italy?
I miss the people and sometimes the lifestyle. Being outdoors a lot, having lunch on Sunday with family on the beach, drinking great wine for no next to no money. When I lived in Italy I did not realize how precious those luxuries are!

Would you say Italians are generally more friendly than British people?
Most definitely yes Wink

What made you move to the U.K.?
I left Italy straight after uni and lived in Asia for a few years. The UK seemed like a good way to transition from Asia's craziness back to good old Europe.

Do you miss the beautiful Italian landscape?
I do, although I also love the British countryside to
bits!
