Lansinoh Wearable Breast Pump review: "It's made all the difference to feeding my newborn"

Offering breastfeeding mums all the convenience of hands-free milk expression with hospital grade suction levels at a very competitive price point, Lansinoh's new wearable breast pump seems to tick all the boxes. We put it to the test with new mum Tamsin, who tested it extensively during the first few months of breastfeeding her newborn.

Overall verdict

Overall, our tester Tamsin found the Lansinoh Wearable Breast Pump very easy to get to grips with once she'd got her head around all the different functions and features. After using it for several months as a way of supplementing her milk supply as well as sharing night feeds, she said it really did help make these tasks easier, collecting breast milk comfortably and efficiently. While its level of discretion wasn't quite high enough for Tamsin to feel comfortable pumping in a work setting, she liked its hands-free capabilities and would happily wear it while out and about on a walk. Overall, she loved its value for money when compared with other wearable breast pumps and said it was a lot more effective than the manual pump she'd previously used.

This is great value for money considering the difference it’s made to feeding my son, and making it easy for my husband to feed our son too.

How we tested the Lansinoh Wearable Breast Pump

New mum Tamsin used the Lansinoh Wearable Breast Pump on a daily basis over a testing period of several months, having first tried it to collect colostrum and stimulate labour pre-birth and then to help supplement breastfeeds once her baby was born. During this time she took extensive notes on how well the wearable pump slotted into her life feeding a newborn round the clock, including ease of use, comfort, wearability and overall value for money.

How was it using the pump for the first time?

"There was no assembly required and the instructions were simple and basic. After a quick charge the pumps worked straight away."

My first impression of the pump was that it wasn't too bulky but seemed robust enough to get the job done!

How do you use the Lansinoh Wearable Pump?

"Since having our son in February, I’ve used the pump in various ways: to supplement feeds to ensure I don’t impact my supply, to collect colostrum while at the hospital recovering from a C-Section and pre-baby to encourage colostrum and nipple stimulation for labour/contractions."

Is the pump comfortable?

The pump is extremely comfortable and I found it easy to put it centrally on my breast. The number of functions and massaging features take some getting used to, but once you’ve tested most of them it’s easy to get to grips with them

How noisy is the pump?

It’s quiet, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable with people hearing the sucking sound if I was out and about or with colleagues 

How efficient is the pump?

"Very efficient and has collected a number of ‘meals’ for our little one."

The pump's efficiency means it's extremely easy for my husband to do the night feeds while I recover from a c-section

Is the pump heavy or awkward?

"It’s on the heavier side, but with the right bra it’s absolutely fine."

How does this pump compare with others you've used?

I’ve used a manual pump before which I didn’t get along with. The ease of use with this pump is brilliant

"The pump is robust. The electric parts are easy to remove and charge and don’t feel flimsy at all."

How is the pump to use day-to-day?

It’s easy to sit with it on, or wander around and do what you need to as long as you have a comfortable bra it can sit in! Yes if I was going on a walk, I’d be happy to wear it without the fear of it falling out and breaking.

How easy is the pump to clean?

I clean the pump easily as all parts are easy to remove. I then sterilise the plastic parts of the pump. Nothing has faded yet and it's dishwasher-safe. 

How discreet is the Lansinoh Wearable Breast Pump?

"It isn't completely silent and is a little larger, so I don't think I'd use it in a work setting, but I would potentially use it while out on a walk if I was bottle feeding over breast in public."

How transportable is the pump?

"Very easy to transport. I just popped it into my hospital bag for birth."
