Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Such an interesting article about the psychological burden of performing “gender”

Not sure if this is really a FWR topic but the total lack of compassion from some of our TRA/MRA visitors for those suffering from gender confusion has shocked me recently. Probably shouldn’t be a surprise but it nevertheless has been.

While they are busy pointing fingers at “the audience”, they are not considering the distress their rhetoric props up.

I think this is a compassionate and important article.

Victim blaming 101. Treat em as 'freaks' & then inform them they are responsible for their own unhappiness that follows.

But you're asking the rest of society to lie. To perform our own false acceptance. And on top of that, to ask our kids to lie and accept a false reality. Not to mention that the lie comes with removing boundaries that are there to keep us safe. People who wish they were the opposite sex demand an enormous amount from the rest of society and we are within our rights to refuse that. It really is on people with gender confusion to find a solution that actually works for everyone. Dishonesty and coercion is not the answer.

What are you talking about? Its trans gender not trans sexual. There is no lie.

Per the Equality Act, its transsexual not transgender

Gender reassignment
(1)A person has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment if the person is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process (or part of a process) for the purpose of reassigning the person's sex by changing physiological or other attributes of sex.

(2)A reference to a transsexual person is a reference to a person who has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment.

(3)In relation to the protected characteristic of gender reassignment—

(a)a reference to a person who has a particular protected characteristic is a reference to a transsexual person;

(b)a reference to persons who share a protected characteristic is a reference to transsexual persons.

No offence, but are you really that ignorant to believe legal wording is some sort of objective truth about an issue instead of just being tied to older wording? How does would this work globally might be a clue to why this line of reasoning is fallacious.

The UK Equality Act 2010 uses the term "transsexual" because the legislation's language is inherited directly from older anti-discrimination laws drafted in the late 1990s and early 2000s. 1, 2]
Key reasons for this terminology include:

  • Legislative History: The protected characteristic of "gender reassignment" and the conceptual framework for trans protections in UK law were established by regulations in 1999, which predated the widespread adoption of "transgender" as a broad legal and social umbrella term. 1]
  • Statutory Continuity: When the Equality Act 2010 consolidated previous discrimination laws (such as the Sex Discrimination Act 1975), it unified the existing protected characteristics without modernizing every specific noun. 1]
  • Focus on Transition: The statutory definition specifically ties the protected characteristic to a person undergoing, proposing to undergo, or having undergone a process to reassign their sex, matching the clinical and legal vocabulary standard at the time of drafting. 1, 2]
Although official governmental guidance and parliamentary bodies now acknowledge that "transsexual" is largely outdated and prefer terms like "trans" or "transgender," the literal text of the 2010 Act remains unchanged unless formally amended by Parliament. 1, 2]

An irony of this performance anxiety, this "dramaturgical stress" as the article calls it is that, in my experience, women suffer from it more than men. The article gives the example of flight attendants, but actually all women are socialised into the "surface acting" that this profession is required to excel in - smiling, being nice/kind, putting people at their ease and so on.

Men, on the whole, are a bit imperceptive of all this. They are more likely to just be themselves, disregarding, or being oblivious to, the impression they create in others. So a man who wants to present as a woman is suddenly thrown into a set of stresses which are wholly new to him precisely because he isn't a woman. Not the dramaturgical stress of actually being a woman, of course (the need to perform kindness, attentiveness, pleasingness, etc), but the different dramaturgical stress of being trans.

Great observation!

Well lots of people on Reddit seem to think they've actually changed sex. Which is insane, but they do.

They are expecting us to act as though they have changed sex. Treating some men as though they are not men for the purposes of privacy, dignity and safeguarding. That's the lie.

Well lots of people on Reddit seem to think they've actually changed sex. Which is insane, but they do.

And not just on reddit either.

Trans identified men, including some who have posted on this site, are constantly talking about how their ingestion of cross sex hormones, their extreme body modifications and overall adoption of female social sex stereotypes, actually makes them the opposite sex. There was also that big- jawed lawyer on Channel 4, who complained about the Supreme Court decision saying that every 'cell in his body has become feminised', so because of that, he shouldn't be excluded from female spaces.

I remember reading a comment from a self proclaimed "transsexual woman" activist, on a substack article regarding the paused puberty trials, who asserted multiple times that sex is mutable because children who are given exogenous cross sex hormones early enough, will grow up to be the opposite sex. Here's part of their comment: "An MtF ends up a sterile female, from molecular biology up to phenotype. For example."

During the Sandie Peggie employment tribunal, the trans-identified male doctor Theodore "Beth" Upton, described himself as a "biological woman" who would impose himself on female patients in the event that they requested a female doctor for intimate care.

Here's an excellent article with multiple examples of trans-identified men, including prominent activists, describing themselves as "biological women" and "female", including the fragrant India Willoughby.

This quote is really apt:
"Is it really true that “no one's denying the reality of biological sex”? There seems to be a lot of people doing that thing that "no one" is doing"

Do you think trans identifying men are trying to be perceived as women? Which obviously they cannot be, what with being male and all. How is that not attempting to deceive?

Or are we supposed to know that they are doing a performance of femininity but not mention the disconnect?

Technically speaking trans people can biologically possess the secondary sexual characteristics of the opposite sex that manifest in their morphology via hormones. But they aren't claiming to change gametes or chromosomes is the point. You are confusing bi/multimodal sex (sex traits) with the binary sex system (gametes).

Man/Woman are distinct social categories by having both sex & gendered associations.

The confusion arises for those who don't understand or can't accept that sex isn't the only way the sexes are socially distinguished.

You have no more authority to speak about what the majority believe than any other TIM.

It's interesting how much this movement relies on extreme instances to justify its bigoted claims. They need them to be 'real'/the norm otherwise their strawman is exposed.
