Such an interesting article about the psychological burden of performing “gender”

Not sure if this is really a FWR topic but the total lack of compassion from some of our TRA/MRA visitors for those suffering from gender confusion has shocked me recently. Probably shouldn’t be a surprise but it nevertheless has been.

While they are busy pointing fingers at “the audience”, they are not considering the distress their rhetoric props up.

I think this is a compassionate and important article.

What's prudish is the over reaction to the suggestion of the fact that larger breasts are generally considered attractive. That isn't to say small one's aren't so relax.

But the over reaction to women embracing their sexual traits by enhancing them points to misogynistic Victorian shaming of women's sexuality. And this sort of 'shaming' via the framing of women's expression of sexuality as 'stereotypes' is all over the GC movement.

Shouting 'stereotypes' at women's sexual liberation isn't the feminist win you think it is.

Thank you for your reassurance but I have never not been relaxed about my small boobs and whether or not they are attractive- it’s not something I give any thought to. They did a wonderful job of feeding my two babies, which was their main purpose.

I had to laugh at accusations of prudishness from someone using the word ‘mating’ for humans 😂

OMG. I've always said the GC movement has its roots in Victorian prudishness. Say the word 'boob' or 'porn' & mayhem ensues.

That they lose their minds at the suggestion that breasts are generally attractive to the opposite sex tells you all you need to know about this movement.

😂😂😂

No prudishness here!

I LIKE my small breasts as I can choose to go braless when I want! They fed my two children. My youngest refused food until she was 10 months, so they literally kept her alive!

He does seem creepily obsessed!

The primary biological function of human breasts is to produce milk to feed infants.

Absolutely - mine fed my babies for months without trouble.

But I suppose fake tits don’t work in the same way. Yes, creepily obsessed with tits, porn, being in the gym; one assumes that he thinks only bodies from the likes of Love Island are attractive. I find it sad, and not at all sexy to be so hung up on stereotypes to that extent.

On the plus side, I hade ‘prudes’ in the sweep.

Apologies did not see this response.

If you think about what the widely accepted increased suicide risk factors are for the general population you might notice that trans people are more likely to be at risk to suicidality because many of those risk factors (familial/societal rejection, addiction, mental illness, discrimination, unemployment & homelessness) apply to them…& not just one but in multiples which ups the risk significantly.

So its important to take trans people risk of suicidality seriously because of the proven risk factors. For this reason I suspect that patients suggesting they maybe be suicidal or thoughts of suicidality are treated with extreme care.

It is interesting that you are willing to concede that associated factors increase suicide risk among all young people.

Which only makes the refusal of now discredited gender identity clinics such as the Tavistock to recognise that young people, especially but not exclusively young women, were presenting with a slew of additional factors and diagnoses such as pubertal and generalised anxiety, OCD, bulimia, anorexia, autism etc, but that the only one that the clinics leaped on and saw as important was their confusion about their gender identity. Was this a deliberate decision designed to claim that gender identity and body dysphoria were not one part of the plethora of mental anxiety many young people experience as adolescents, but were instead a distinct developmental stage called “transition”? The fact that clinics failed to examine and annotate other factors in initial presentation, failed to initiate follow up procedures, failed to offer guidance and therapy is well documented. The facts are clear, the motivation for such deliberately poor intervention is not.

And sadly, this culture of “cherry picking the symptom to fit the disease” continues. Well worth listening to the talk that follows the article highlighted by
@Cantunseeit to see how WPATH is continuing this quasi scientific approach to justify the dangerous medicalisation and surgical mutilation of young people.

A mismanaged incompetent underfunded health system in no way implicates the validity of a treatment just like malpractice doesn't.

Your logic needs work.

But if treating gender dysphoria by validation, surgery or cross sex hormones including puberty blockers was a treatment that worked for the majority who presented with it, why is it being questioned?

murasaki · 30/08/2026 15:20

If performing gendering such a psychological burden, might I suggest just not doing it? It works well enough for me.

Frankly if something you have chosen to do is a problem for you, that's on you.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/08/2026 15:24

And another potentially interesting thread is hijacked by an obsessed, intellectually challenged illiterate.

Sigh.

For the record, the last time I saw "boobies" in the wild as a euphemism for teats (sometimes pronounced tits) it was in The Perishers in about 1970 or so. Other than that it's always been a reference to a type of bird: a sort of gannet, I believe.. And tits are also a type of bird. Is there a flightless bird called a mammary, and if not, have we missed a trick somewhere along the line?

Indeed.
And gender is such a varied thing [if you accept that it is a 'thing' at all] that most men and women in this society have a wide range of possible 'gender performances' before going to the extreme of trying to pass as a member of the opposite sex.
An unnecessary and self-imposed burden.

murasaki · 30/08/2026 15:48

I was thinking about the 'conversion therapy' thing, and came to the conclusion that the affirming therapy is actually the conversion therapy, telling people to try to be what they are not, and if that lands them with the psychological burden, that should be banned, not the therapy that moves towards people accepting reality.

Oh my god. Well that's my entertainment for the day. I'd dying. This is so funny.

"Victorian Prudishness"
I've been here forever and certainly wouldn't fall under THAT umbrella. That's hilarious if you know me. I can think of a whole load of people who it doesn't remotely apply to, who have been against it for donkeys.

I'm not sure that a whole load of lesbians would generally fall under that by definition too. They just don't appreciate the rules set by male sexuality standards.

I think this is more the point - women aren't allowed to set the rules. The values system is all based on MALE pleasure not female pleasure. Its all based on MALE power and control and not female interests.

Congratulations for spotting the essence of feminism and the need for it! Would you like a tufty badge?

There is a whole 'progressive' movement which tries to frame prostitution as 'empowering' and 'liberated'. It suggests that surrogacy is always made by free will and choice, and never economic exploitation and coercion. The shaming of women who oppose this, is always a sight to behold. The whole "Far Right" accusation and guilt by association with reference to the Christian Right is absolutely part of the same process.

The word prudish is a way of shaming women for saying no and trying to coerce them and blackmail them into a situation they feel uncomfortable with.

Fuck no.

Its got nothing to do with 'prudishness' and everything to do with women's ability to say "No this doesn't work for me actually".

It is a male power and control word. Well Done.

We see you.

Typing 5318008 into a calculator was hilarious to those of us who were children in the 70s.
I’m sure there was a calculation you could do if you were more intellectual but I cba to work it out.

Apologies if others have said this - I’ve just read a few posts, but if you have to work so hard at ‘performing your gender’, doesn’t that just prove that you are not the gender you are claiming? I never have to think about whether I am performing womanhood - I simply am a woman - something a trans woman will never be.

nutmeg7 · 30/08/2026 16:42

Oh no, just having a flashback to “Allo, ‘allo” and the 1980s.
And the Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies.

Exactly! Women don’t ’identify’ or ‘perform’ as women. We are just women! We know what we are without having to think about it.

Men will NEVER be women, and they will NEVER understand what being a woman is.

murasaki · 30/08/2026 17:07

Quite. Today I have no make up on, and am wearing loose fit shorts and a football shirt and have my hair in what could reasonably considered to be a man bun.

I have put the bins out.

Am I a woman? Yes.

And yet we are supposed to buy into gender woo because those people are apparently 'being their authentic selves’.

murasaki · 30/08/2026 17:16

Whereas they wouldn't know authentic if it bit them on the arse.

Authentic is just getting on with life. As it is.

murasaki · 30/08/2026 17:19

I also have massive sympathy for parents who raised a child that they know is what it is, and are suddenly told they are wrong. They and biology are not. Taking their parenting experiences away for a lie is unforgivable. Same with siblings, and RedtoothBrush speaks eloquently about this.
