Women and men have always existed. British law has always acknowledged the fact. Now there are no excuses not to accept that biology is a thing and to follow the law.

Thanks everyone who fought, argued, donated, whether in public or behind the scenes to help us get here. It took courage to stand up for what is right.

Code of practice provides weapon to defend single-sex spaces
Organisations have long ignored the law on self-identity. The EHRC rules which take effect today will not end that but are nevertheless a victory

It looks like ordinary women and their organisations are going to have to do most of the enforcement too. Luckily they can handle picking up the slack.

Lots more to do, but lets celebrate getting the basics down.

Count your blessings, Terf Islanders!
Not jealous at all😏

Seriously: this is a major achievement, well done to everybody who helped get to this point, and a 👋to the UK legal system[s] that sometimes cling to the facts, reality, and the "golden met-wand of the law, and not the crooked cord of discretion".

Wish Magadelen Berns was still here to see this day, and how far we've come.

She was one of the first women to be brave enough to speak out.

Does anyone know how NHS Annexe B is affected (or indeed, if it is!)

GreyskySexRealistsky · 05/08/2026 13:29

That's a couple of threads and new posters that have been removed from MN today already.

I thought they were just going to carry on peeing, nothing to see here?

IwantToRetire · 05/08/2026 19:31

Does anyone think this statement from Refuge is a bit ????

" ... As the updated Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Code of Practice comes into effect this week, we want to reassure all survivors of domestic abuse that you are not alone, Refuge is here for you. ... "

And with a number of images like this. See below (mnhq willing)

eg nothing like saying they are glad that the right of women to single sex services has been re-established ....

It's blatant - women do not matter to this organisation, and any other organisation that fawns over +TQNB+++ like this.

Does it not occur to them how much their anti-women bias is showing when they release statements like this?

Wishesandhorses · 05/08/2026 20:37

Activists very distressed at having to permit women an inch of the world to call their own can go into any and all mixed sex changing rooms, loos etc with men with gender identities to their hearts' content and support them there. That's the beauty of today; now everyone matters and not just men with gender identities.

Bravo to all the brave and fabulous women who got us here.

Koleev · 05/08/2026 20:38

This the the best known (if not the best) domestic violence support services in the UK.

Their statement sort of normalises the TRAs slant that what is happening now is a threat of some sort.

Just disgusting.

Although cant say I have seen any women's service provided put out just a simply statement along the lines that they are happy that their commitment to single sex services for women has been confirmed as legal once and for all.

Yes, people have pointed out many times before how utterly captured the women’s sector is.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/08/2026 02:42

Not all of the women's sector. These sort of sweeping generalisation not based on fact or knowledge doesn't help promote campaigning for women's sexed based rights.

Why not bother to read Sex Matters who dont make stuff up to "prove" a point, but produce evidence.

Just to repeat what is significant is unfortunately even though NOT the lead DV organisation the media presents it as though it is.

ie to the world at large the "lead" DV organisation in England is saying the priority is about trans rights.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/08/2026 02:57

The women's sector is captured, you can deny it all you want.

SidewaysOtter · 06/08/2026 08:37

[We] will continue to provide gender inclusive services such as community outreach support and dispersed emergency accommodation, as well as single sex services in line with the law

Seems OK to me.

Quite.

Nobody (well. Apparently other than transactivists) wants anyone to ever be without services. It's about adding them to provide mixed sex options and more differentiated groups alongside single sex ones for those who prefer and need those. A range where not everything is for everyone, but there is something for everyone.

The narrative at the moment is going to be lots and lots of reminders that yes, the additional mixed sex stuff will happen and is very special and important, because they're fighting an activist mindset that basically says, as demonstrated across a number of threads at the moment, 'unless I have everything all the time, I don't have enough', followed by meltdown.

This is already a huge demonstration of importance and actually privilege over women, as the cheap and easy option would have been the heartless 'right, everyone use existing provision on the basis of sex, end of, we don't care about your additional views/needs', (hasn't happened), and women who couldn't access mixed sex spaces even in extreme need for rape crisis etc, were just excluded and nobody cared. It is going to have to be enough.

Imnobody4 · 06/08/2026 17:53

The Niblett woman isn't happy.

An actual UK MP, lounging in her bikini in a Mediterranean garden, telling British survivors that they’re arseholes for wanting single sex support services, rapists should be in women’s prisons and that your daughter should get changed in front of men. Mad

I am not being rude. I am talking about facts. the entire women's sector is not captured and making statement like that are extremely disrespectful to those women who are providing women only services.

Also it doesn't help FWR reputation for being an online source for informed discussion and fact sharing.

How is challenging someone making a sweeping generalisation being rude?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/08/2026 19:45

You were pretty much conceding the extent of the capture in the post I replied to 🙄 I will express whichever opinion I choose, I don’t consider you a great authority on this matter or anything else. HTH

This post is an admission that the women’s sector is highly captured. Pockets of resistance, yes, but also lots of vocally zealous trans rights activism. You seem surprised that not one women’s organisation has put out a press release that they support single sex spaces now it’s unequivocally legal to do so.

I’m not surprised at all.

God, I'd managed to forget all about Alex Drummond and his 'widening the bandwidth of how to be a woman'. Insufferable narcissist. 'Women are allowed to fix cars too'. Patronising prick.

Ugh! 🤬

That video is quite something! The lack of self awareness! She’s like a cross between Amanda in Motherland, Helen Webberley and Jill in Nighty Night.
