Your Corbyn/Sultana Party - Discussion thread - Part 3

Welcome to Part 3 of Mumsnet charting the drama inside Your Party. We have followed YP from the start when it looked liked it might be a major player to its ongoing internal row which has left it struggling.

We have the best and funniest commentary on British hard left wing politics, looking not just at YP itself, but wider issues plaguing the left. Dominated by the problem which weirdly didn't worry Marx, the Chartists, Anarchists, Trade Unionists, even Communist regimes, or much of the long history of left wing feminists, but suddenly in the last ten or so years has become huge. Is Human biology a thing ? Are men in dresses the most oppressed people on the planet even if they are billionaires?

Currently we are looking at Your Party internal elections which have been dominated by the split between the Corbyn and Sultana factions who have different visions of how the party should look. Summarised here:

Your Party? Whose elections?
https://www.workersliberty.org/story/2026-01-21/your-party-whose-elections?language_content_entity=en

Sultana's Grassroots Left slate not only added Corbyn without permission but others. It seems they are being denounced for undemocratic manoeuvres.

Fractures amongst Sultana's shadow caucus have opened up
https://skidrowradio.substack.com/p/the-slate-that-wasnt

As always the Men in Dresses have outsize importance. The Trans Liberation group are backing the Sultanate Grassroots Left faction, but things as always are messy.

The set up of the YP voting also means there are male and female posts in each region. The non binary types are claiming this is unfair what about them:
Is this trolling? LGBTQIA+ group demand "non-binary" CEC spots
A Your Party clique is infuriated that non-men/women isn't a category for the elections.
https://skidrowradio.substack.com/p/is-this-trolling-lgbtqia-group-demand

There is plenty more crazy to come.

Bradford looking like Reform will come out on top there too.

And so it came to pass

Reform 29 seats.

Your Independent party 9, greens 9, other independent 4

Still 3 seats to decide

Sultana has been on the phone to Bindmans

https://nitter.net/KTHopkins/status/2054492187665084827#m

"On behalf of their client, Zara Sultana, Bindmans Media and Information Law Practise Group requires that I publish the following statement on X, and that such statement must be clearly visible and pinned to my profile for a continuous period of no less than 24 hours: “On 30 March 2026, I published a post on my X account addressed to Zarah Sultana in which I stated that she encourages and incites violence and is friends with terrorists. Those statements are false. I was wrong and offer my sincere apologies to Ms Sultana for the harm and distress caused to her.” It is my very great pleasure to do this, and I reiterate my sincere and repeated offer to meet with Miss Zara Sultana in person to resolve our differences."

She also has the receipts on Burnham

And newly converted green lefties stats isn't likely to propose a left unity slate if this is anything to go by

Birmingham looks like it's now in a state of chaos where it's impossible for anyone to achieve a majority.

Reform are the biggest party but with only 23 seats out of 101, and adding on the Tories (if they could work together) only gets you to 36.

Greens plus Labour plus Lib Dems only gets up to 48.

Nobody wants to form a coalition with the Islamic Peaky Blinders, but I suppose they'll be willing to help another coalition, for a price.

The rubbish is piled up in more places in Birmingham than just the streets.

Neither Sultana or Corbyn have addressed the arrival of the EHRC code yet. No surprises from Corbyn there, but Sultana broke up the party over this.

Did he really direct this McDonald's ad?

If it is, the fact he tries to make it low-key and realist (like, no actual punchline) almost makes it worse than a straight up commercial jingle slogan ad

Different left groupsicle.

Imma keep this solitary vigil for the cluster 🦆 going .

From The Many. Now The Few. Sultana faction issues a vote of no confidence against 3 Corbynite members but doesn't have enough clout to actually remove them.

report on more comedy a lot has changed in a year

SWP Marxism Festival 2026: a demoralised gathering of political bankrupts
Last year’s Marxism Festival coincided with Zarah Sultana’s announcement that she and Corbyn would lead a new left party to challenge Keir Starmer’s Labour Party. Standing alongside Corbyn at Marxism 2025, Nielsen had told a cheering audience that Corbyn’s new party was the start of a mass mobilisation to defeat war, genocide, austerity and the far-right.
This year’s event took place in the slough of despond. Attendance fell by 2,000 (from last year’s 5,000), and the opening rally at Hackney EartH—whose tiered seating was packed to overflow a year ago—was in the hundreds. Throughout the festival, aside from the opening rally, attendees were mainly SWP stalwarts in their 50s, 60s, and 70s.
Yet Marxism 2026 served a critical purpose for the SWP leadership. Over the four-day event, its speakers insisted on the need to soft-pedal opposition to Labour’s leader-in-waiting Andy Burnham; advocated closer cooperation with Zack Polanski’s Greens; and blocked any criticism of the SWP’s rotten role in promoting the Corbyn project.
Despite Corbyn expelling three SWP national committee members from Your Party last November, the SWP welcomed him onto the main stage on Saturday. Nielsen (one of those expelled) sat next to Corbyn, chatting amicably, never mentioning Your Party, let alone denouncing its betrayals.

Hadi boasted that people from Burnham’s election team had described SUTR’s mobilisation as “the backbone” of Labour’s campaign on the ground, with SUTR members on occasion outnumbering those drafted in by Labour.

This is such obvious bollocks that I'm surprised even an SWP audience was willing to tolerate it.

Lalgarh · 15/07/2026 08:10

They're very easily buttered up aren't they.

Musks former ally said he chose to cultivate fascists because they're easy to buy off with sufficient cash. All the Trotskyites need are a few Smiths lyrics and a Scouse accent

Shortshriftandlethal · 15/07/2026 10:08

"Katie Coles, who chaired the opening rally, declared, “Nothing makes me feel more hopeful, more optimistic than seeing Starmer in a fit of tears outside Downing Street . Good riddance!”

Nice people, so kind!

SionnachRuadh · 15/07/2026 11:27

Lewis Nielsen, to be fair to him, does not have a fake Scouse accent. How he manages to sound like a geezer from Dagenham when both his parents have quite posh RP voices is another matter.

I've become fascinated by Labour's mayoral candidate Bev Craig. I can understand a Northern Irish person moving to England at 18 and losing her accent. (Though that's easier said than done; decades in England will usually soften a Norn Iron accent so you get mistaken for Canadian, but not English)

Somehow though, Bev has entirely lost her Belfast accent, and despite spending her whole adult life in very white-collar working environments, she doesn't speak RP either. She seems to have acquired a fake working-class Manchester accent that makes her sound like she's auditioning to be on Phoenix Nights.

Of course this is the Labour Party, so nobody asks why all these people are so weird.

Trotskyite grave dancing is a long time tradition.

That comment on the age range of the Festival of Marxism gig reminds me of a joke about Stalin going into an orthodox church. He gloats at the patriarch that "look at your congregation. They're all old and dying. You're finished! Your religion is dead! None of them will be here in 20 years!"

"Ah" says the patriarch. "But then there will be new old people".

Is hoping for Full Marxism now a pastime for the elderly alongside going on saga cruises and complaining about the typeface in Private Eye

To be frank looking at the images of those meetings one is reminded of an church congregation. Whenver people join forces in such a way or sign up to a particular political creed then that is what you end up with.

Mark Steel had a good joke (he has his moments) that when he joined the SWP at 18, he was 5 years younger than the average member, and when he left at 50, he was still 5 years younger than the average member.

Pleasantsort2 · 15/07/2026 22:49

🤣Didn't realise they were still going ( sort of!).🍿

Lalgarh · 18/07/2026 07:19

If you remember the September of the open letters and factionalism last year, one of the signees of this open letter (calling on mass socialist democracy in Your Party) matches the name and town of the man currently in custody for the murder of Ann Widdecombe

The Mail have a feature on him but this is gleaned from elsewhere.

NB it's not the multiple joke entries from Adolf Hitler, Napoleon or Jeffrey Epstein

Very interesting. I lolled at some of the joke entries, did the petition get advertised somewhere very edgelordy?
