Your Corbyn/Sultana Party - Discussion thread - Part 3

Welcome to Part 3 of Mumsnet charting the drama inside Your Party. We have followed YP from the start when it looked liked it might be a major player to its ongoing internal row which has left it struggling.

We have the best and funniest commentary on British hard left wing politics, looking not just at YP itself, but wider issues plaguing the left. Dominated by the problem which weirdly didn't worry Marx, the Chartists, Anarchists, Trade Unionists, even Communist regimes, or much of the long history of left wing feminists, but suddenly in the last ten or so years has become huge. Is Human biology a thing ? Are men in dresses the most oppressed people on the planet even if they are billionaires?

Currently we are looking at Your Party internal elections which have been dominated by the split between the Corbyn and Sultana factions who have different visions of how the party should look. Summarised here:

Sultana's Grassroots Left slate not only added Corbyn without permission but others. It seems they are being denounced for undemocratic manoeuvres.

As always the Men in Dresses have outsize importance. The Trans Liberation group are backing the Sultanate Grassroots Left faction, but things as always are messy.

The set up of the YP voting also means there are male and female posts in each region. The non binary types are claiming this is unfair what about them:

Already an unnecessarily fascist structure for submitting agenda items

  • 1.2. Meetings should be held on a regular cadence e.g. once a week. There must be a minimum cadence of once every two weeks.
  • 1.3. The date and time of an AMM must be made known to the membership no later than 4 days before the date and time in question. This requirement is waived in the case of emergency meetings (see Section 2.13.).
  • 1.4. The agenda for AMMs should be provided in good time for members to read through and propose amendments. The agenda should be made available at least 24 hours before the meeting begins.

TLG was set up in response to the announcement of Your Party, aiming to intervene in Your Party to build a member-controlled party to fight for a worker-controlled government, with trans liberation at its core. Our Demands, Member Expectations, and Interim Governance Structure were established to allow us to quickly intervene in the party’s Founding Conference.

There is no trans liberation without class liberation. Trans people are disproportionately affected by issues with housing, education and employment. We are 66% more likely to need benefits. Domestic labour disproportionately falls on trans women*, as it does on all women. As such, we can never truly be free without ending capitalism and building a socialist society that provides for all.

Particularly liking their numbering system of demands, not starting with 1 but with 0.

I think this was the group Sultana chose to hang out with on the same day Corbyn met with the Gaza Bros at a mosque

Reminds me of the child woman Deputy Chair of the Democratic Socialists Of America who said that democracy would be spread from the shopfloor and bosses in charge to...1400 carefully selected delegates nationwide.

Oh I wonder if they have points of privilege and a card system for speaking at events like the DSA infamously has. I think they trialled something like that last year at the YP conference that Sultana boycotted on the first day.

Neither the man arrested, nor the woman interviewed by police, are MPs and neither have been charged with an offence. Neither Corbyn nor Sultana are accused of wrongdoing.

Do you think, maybe, that the Pure Coincidence that the man currently charged with a high profile murder of a former politician shared the same name and location of a signatory to one of the numerous open letters addressed to Your Party might have prompted the police to re prioritize looking into all this YP mess?
