Is Santorini a good family holiday destination?
One of the most beautiful of the Greek islands, Santorini delivers endless sunshine, black lava beaches, ancient sights and spellbinding fiery sunsets. It’s not surprising, therefore, that it’s such a hit with families.
You won’t find the same number of all-inclusive resorts catering to young children here that you might in some other European destinations but there’s a good range of hotels and some do cater to babies through to teens. Santorini does get very busy, however, and this is reflected in hotel prices. Make sure to book well in advance.
Where in Santorini is best for a family holiday?
Some of the best places to stay in Santorini with kids are near the beach, including those at Kamari, Perivolos, Perissa, and Monolithos. The towns of Fira and Oia are great fun, but they do get very crowded.
What are the best things to do in Santorini with kids?
It’s easy to fill your days exploring Santorini. In addition to the beautiful beaches, kids will love exploring the maze of colourful cobblestone streets and snap-worthy alleys in the island’s many pretty villages. The crescent-shaped caldera (a cauldron-like volcanic depression) is fascinating to explore and a much better way to learn geography than in a classroom. There are also dozens of ancient ruins to discover. Don't miss the interactive Lost Atlantis Experience, an engaging museum dedicated to the myth of the lost city of Atlantis.
What’s the best family-friendly hotel in Santorini?
Our favourite is the Andronis Arcadia Oia, a stylish resort with an enormous swimming pool, stellar sunset views and a fantastic kids’ club.
How we chose our recommendations
Because we know that there’s nothing like a real recommendation, we first headed to the Mumsnet holiday forums to find out what family hotels in Santorini were being recommended.
We then did some research across the wider web, looking at what family hotels in Santorini had won accolades or been featured in ‘best choice’ lists across websites, and what customer reviews said about them. Having collated all that information, we then narrowed our list down to the best family hotels in Santorini now.
