1. Best overall hotel: Barcelo Corralejo Sands, Corralejo

“In Corralejo the Barcelo Sands is lovely” - recommended by Mumsnet user, Pieceofpurplesky

Right in the centre of Corralejo, Barcelo Corralejo Sands is ideally located for the resort’s popular bars, shops and restaurants. A three-minute walk to a long stretch of sandy beach, guests can simply sunbathe and soak up the action or get stuck in with more high-energy watersports like windsurfing, sailing and scuba diving. The famous Corralejo sand dunes are a short drive away; making this hotel a great base to explore some of Fuerteventura's National Park.

With an outdoor pool and separate pool for children, Barcelo Corralejo Sands has a large sun terrace with loungers and parasols and the good news is, you may even get to read some of your book thanks to the onsite Children’s Mini Club.

Suitable for children aged 4-12 years, the club has a daytime activity programme to ensure the kids are kept entertained, while the children's playground with slides and an adventure play area can help them burn off some excess energy before bed.

With a variety of modern family suites that can comfortably sleep two adults and two children (on a sofa bed), all suites come with a balcony or terrace to watch the stunning sunset at the end of a sun-soaked day.

"Barcelo Castillo - We thought it was excellent" - reviewed by Mumsnetter, MsJaneAusten

"We go to this resort often and have stayed at Barcelo Castillo Beach. The bungalows are basic and comfortable - the bed was fabulously comfortable. That said, if you like space around the sunlounger, in high season, that's not going to happen. It's rammo" - recommended by Mumsnetter Kbear

A handy 10-minute drive from the airport, Caleta de Fuste is a popular choice for families with young children, largely due to short stress-free transfers and easy access to the resort’s safe and comfortable beaches.

Barcelo Fuerteventura Castillo is a two-minute walk from the beach and also offers plenty on site to keep the kids entertained including sports facilities like mini golf tennis, basketball, volleyball and football.

With a variety of swimming pools to choose from; there’s even a new pirate and princess complex with a splash pool, kids’ pool and adventure playground. Castillo also offers a popular kids’ club with a daily entertainment programme and a mini disco each evening.

While the family bungalows are fairly basic with no-frills decor; they comfortably sleep two adults and two children and include a handy kitchenette if you like to prepare the odd meal during your stay.

Set within Fuerteventura Golf club and Conference Centre, the Elba Carlota hotel is just a few metres from a captivating Canarian beach, where you can even choose to bag yourself a Balinese bed to relax on while looking out to sea. Should you wish to explore the local area, the Atlántico Fuerteventura Shopping Centre is a short drive away and home to a wide range of bustling shops and restaurants.

The hotel offers popular all-inclusive options and dining in two on-site restaurants, with a great choice of buffet-style dining and a la carte menus to choose from as well as a snack bar for lighter bites during the day.

"The Sheraton is amazing! Great food, the children's pool is really good with a water slide and jets, soft play in the kids’ club and a playground! The staff are lovely and really engaging with our toddler who has loved being here! We have bed and breakfast as there are quite a few places to eat out locally. Drinks in the hotel are quite reasonable so I haven't missed being all-inclusive" - tried and tested by Mumsnetter, Crazycatlady83

Located on the beach, this luxury hotel is also close to the airport so it makes a great base for exploring both the north and south of the island.

There are four outdoor pools to choose from, including a pool specifically for children -  packed full of fun brightly coloured characters and water fountains that will keep them happily entertained for hours.

You’ll be spoiled for choice by the four onsite restaurants and be sure to find something to suit even the pickiest of eaters, while the Yambaland kids’ club and its brightly coloured playroom offer a range of creative activities throughout the day.

If you’re looking for a more relaxing family break while remaining close to Corralejo’s beaches, restaurants and shops, H10 Ocean Suites is perfectly placed. "I stayed at Costa Caleta and couldn't fault it. It was immaculate. The rooftop terrace with a swimming pool made it easier to get away from the crowd by the main pool. In the same street, there was a fantastic steak house which was really cheap but lovely" - recommended by Mumsnetter, Numbmum83

If you prefer to swim away from the hustle and bustle of screaming kids and inflatables, the Costa Caleta Hotel & Oasis Park has a choice of four pools, including two plunge pools on a quieter rooftop terrace. These not only come with amazing views but are also calmer and a lot less crowded too - there’s even a hot tub to help you unwind at the end of a fun-filled day.

Just 10 minutes’ from the nearest beach, Costa Caleta caters well for a young crowd, with a children’s playground, sports area for children and adults, multi-sports court and table tennis. 9. Best for food: Barcelo Fuerteventura Mar (previously Thalasso Spa Hotel), Caleta de Fuste

Barcelo Fuerteventura Mar (previously Thalasso Spa Hotel), Calete de Fuste

Barcelo Fuerteventura Mar | Check availability

"We went a couple of years ago and loved it. Good rooms (excellent two-bedroom family suites which for our dates were not much more than a standard room), lovely grounds and pools next to the beach. The all-inclusive option worked well. Not overly fancy (i.e not top-end 5-star, luxury hotels of the world category) but a v.decent solid 3 - 4 star option" -  recommended by Mumsnetter, Mummyandmeguru

Fully refurbished in 2021 and situated on Caleta de Fuste beach, the proximity of this hotel to El Castilo bay makes it a great location for those who want to head to the beach and benefit from the Atlantic breeze with some high-energy watersports.

You can take your pick from the three saltwater swimming pools, one aimed specifically at children and if you fancy some child-free time during your visit, the Barry Club has an extensive entertainment programme for children aged 4-12 years.

When it comes to dining, you can certainly mix it up and rotate between the buffet restaurant, pool snack bar, and a la carte restaurants serving Mexican and Italian dishes. There’s even a show cooking area for sampling fresh meat and fish, taking full advantage of Canarian cuisine and themed dinners.

10. Best for teens: Elba Sara Caleta de Fuse, Caleta de Fuste

Elba Sara Caleta de Fuse, Calete de Fuste

Elba Sara Caleta de Fuse | Check availability

“Elba Sara in Caleta de Fuste is brilliant. We had adjoining rooms last year and it felt like lots of space. Nearly all the rooms have sea views, the entertainment is great and there's a gate out to the promenade and beach. We loved our stay there and have been struggling since to find anywhere else that looks as good” - recommended by Mumsnet user, rallytog1

If you’re travelling with older children or teens and want to avoid the dreaded exclamations of “I’m bored”, Elba Sara is well equipped to entertain children of all ages, including tweens and teens.

With separate pools for adults and children, as well as a jacuzzi and water beds, you can soak up the sun during the day, while younger children may opt to head to the mini club which offers both daytime and evening entertainment.

From golf to tennis, mountain biking and Nordic walking, older children and teens can dabble with surfing, kite surfing, snorkelling and even paragliding, all from the easily accessible Elba beach.

The spacious family rooms come in a variety of setups, each with spectacular sea views, while the interlinking rooms are a great option for larger families or groups.

Nearest airport: Fuerteventura Airport (5 miles)

Is Fuerteventura good for families?

Absolutely. The second largest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura offers a relatively short flight time of around 4-5 hours from the UK and makes an excellent family-friendly destination.

With pretty much guaranteed beautiful weather all year round, children will love the expansive sandy beaches for building sandcastles and paddling in the sea, while the Atlantic breeze can make temperatures more manageable in the summer months.

With all resorts offering relatively short transfer times, your family can spend less time on a coach or taxi and more time enjoying their holiday. What’s not to like about that?

What’s the most popular resort in Fuerteventura?

Located in the north of the island, Corralejo is the most popular resort in Fuerteventura and for good reason. With beautiful beaches and a great variety of shops, bars, nightlife and entertainment, Corralejo is also home to a popular water park which makes a great family-friendly day out.

For those with younger children, Caleta de Fuste is a popular choice. It’s so close to the airport that you don’t need to worry about restless overtired children during the transfer.

What’s the best family-friendly hotel in Fuerteventura?

For its central location, proximity to local attractions and a wide choice of activities and entertainment for children (and adults!) of all ages, Barcelo Corralejo Sands has something to offer everyone, however, relaxing (or high energy) you like your holiday to be.

How we chose our recommendations

We spent several hours sifting through Mumsnet's forums for recommendations from our users on the family hotels in Fuerteventura they rate most highly. We were also on the lookout for poor reviews of hotels to avoid.

We consulted recommendations from experts, consumer websites and travel publications and made sure we included hotels that regularly appeared in the top 10 lists.

We then looked at reviews for each of our longlisted family hotels to check that previous visitors were satisfied with their stay.

By doing this, we whittled our longlist down and chose a selection of hotels that we think offer something for everybody.
