Best family hotels in Mallorca

Home to some of the best hotels in Spain, Mallorca is very family-friendly. It’s more chilled than its Balearic neighbour Ibiza and larger than Menorca but still benefits from that perfect Mediterranean climate. The island is dotted with white sandy beaches and clear, safe waters, as well as Roman and Moorish sites.

You might know it by its Anglicised spelling Majorca, as it’s been a popular holiday destination for British families for decades. Popular seaside resorts like Alcudia, Puerto Pollensa, Cala D'Or and Cala Bona are set up with families in mind, with plenty for kids to do as well as opportunities to relax and recharge.

We've consulted the Mumsnet Holidays forum to get insights from real parents about the best family-friendly hotels and apartments in Mallorca so if you're looking to book a Balearic break with the family, we've got you covered.

Another recommendation for Puerto Pollensa, perfect place for a family holiday with kids. Based on recommendations here, we stayed at the Puerto Azul Hotel, can't fault it.

Our verdict

Less than 100 metres from one of Mallorca’s best beaches in Puerto Pollensa, the Puerto Azul Suite Hotel is Mumsnetters’ pick for the best family hotel in Mallorca. With its vast, kid-friendly pool and beautiful mountain views, each suite has a terrace or a balcony so you can sit outside after the children are in bed.

Mumsnetters say the buffet-style breakfast is particularly good at the Puerto Azul. If lounging on the beach or by the pool isn’t your thing, head to the nearby marina or explore Alcudia’s pretty old town.

We (2 adults 2 children) are staying at the Eix Lagotel in Majorca this summer, it has 2 bedroom apartments, we booked through Love Holidays as you can filter by room configuration. We paid 4k all inclusive inc flights for August so presumably Sept much cheaper.

Our verdict

A family-friendly hotel that won’t break the bank? Step forward the Eix Lagotel, a lakeside resort in Playa de Muro with a big pool, clean, air conditioned apartments and plenty to keep the kids entertained. The beach is 10 minutes’ walk away, but there’s everything you need on-site including a gym, three pools, tennis courts, mini golf, a sauna and a hot tub.

The hotel is right next to the S’Albufera Nature Reserve, and there are mountains a few miles inland, if you fancy a bit of adventure between beach days.

I’ve been to Biomar. Lovely hotel. Food, service, rooms were all great. But pools were cold, though admittedly in May. Safari park very loud and full on - we had to walk through it to get to the onsite amusement park/water park. Sa coma was ok. Quite tacky beach resort. But our kids liked it.

Our verdict

On the east coast of Mallorca, the five-star TUI Blue Sensatori Bio Mar is a luxurious retreat that's fully geared up for families. In addition to the main pool, there's an activity pool and a kids' pool with hippo and turtle jets, and there's a range of kids' clubs that cater to children aged between three and 12.

It's easy to explore the Sa Coma area on foot thanks to a traffic-free promenade of shops and restaurants, and the Biomar puts you around a 10-15 minute walk from the beach.

Foodie families will love exploring no fewer than seven on-site restaurants where cuisine ranges from Italian to Indian, as well as a main restaurant with a dedicated kids' buffet section.

Another vote for the Villaconcha. It was recommended to me by a Mumsnetter about 10 years ago and we've been back several times. A lovely friendly hotel which is great for little kids in a lovely town.

We loved the Hoposa Villaconcha in Puerto Pollenca, elegant hotel, quality feel to everything, lovely pools including a lane swimming one where they set up a WIBIT twice a day. Kids pools including little slides. Spa you can book and almost have to yourself. Beautiful beach about 4 mins away and the town is just gorgeous, so many lovely restaurants and the famous Pine Walk. Very relaxing break with children.

Our verdict

For a holiday where everything is taken care of, Villaconcha Hotel and Apartments is a great choice. It has several kid-friendly pools, loads of activities and each room comes with a private balcony. Breakfast can be served in your room free of charge, which is always a godsend with kids. The nearest beach is just a few minutes’ walk away, and there are diving and horse riding experiences available locally.

We've been to Zafiro Majorca, it's next door to the Zafiro C'an Picafort but seemed to be smaller and slightly more aimed at younger children so might suit your children more. Was lovely and shady which sold it for us as I'm paranoid about DC burning! Get a private transfer to keep the travel time down, should be there in under an hour compared to about 1.5 hours by coach.

Our verdict

With 13 hotels dotted around Mallorca, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the Zafiro chain. Mumsnetters like the Zafiro Mallorca, which is sandwiched between the beautiful Can Picafort beach and S’Albufera National Park. Staying at the Zafiro Mallorca gives you access to an epic collection of outdoor pools, as well as a sauna, a hot tub and an indoor pool. The suites have a kitchenette, which always makes travelling with kids (and catering to their varied eating habits) that bit easier.

We have just come back and had the most amazing time at Tui Grupotel Majorca Mar in Sa Coma. The accommodation was some of the best I've stayed in, grounds well kept, entertainment excellent, food excellent, directly on the coast.

Our verdict

In Cala Bona on Mallorca’s northeast coast, the TUI BLUE Grupotel Mallorca Mar is set in lush grounds dotted with palm trees and lawns where children can run around and play. We love the covered outdoor terrace at the main buffet restaurant for epic coastal views while the kids tuck into familiar dishes from the children’s buffet.

The TUI BLUE kids’ clubs run six days a week and are a great place for your children to make new friends while you head to the on-site spa. There’s also plenty of day and night entertainment from the TUI entertainment team including BlueFIt for Families sessions for active families. Little ones will love the mini disco each evening, with the chance to meet loveable TUI mascots Barnse and Captain T.

Our verdict

A massage takes holiday chillaxing to another level, and if spa treatments are your thing, Playa Mar hotel is the perfect place for your next family getaway. "We stayed in Viva Sunrise in Puerto Alcudia and got a private hot tub balcony if that would suit your cousin? We stayed there when our little one was 2.5 and it was a great hotel for him. It was a short walk to a lovely stretch of beach, although the immediate area around the hotel wasn't that picturesque. Alcudia old town wasn't too far and also recommend Puerto Pollensa and Pollensa old town. There's buses to both if you don't want to hire a car."

Our verdict

Travelling with little ones can be a real chore, and once you get to your destination you’re definitely going to be ready for a break. The VIVA Sunrise has everything you need for a relaxing stay with babies and toddlers, including pools, a playground, a mini market stocked with essentials and friendly, English-speaking staff. Each suite has a kitchenette and a private terrace or balcony, and it’s just a five-minute walk to the nearest beach.

How we chose our recommendations

Because we know that there's nothing like a real recommendation from a real parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out what family hotels in Mallorca were being recommended.

We then did some research across the wider web, looking at what family hotels in Mallorca had won accolades or been featured in 'best choice' lists across websites, and what customer reviews said about them on sites like Tripadvisor and Booking.com. Having collated all that information, we then narrowed our list down to the best family hotels in Mallorca at the moment.
