Mallorca is very family-friendly. It’s more chilled than its Balearic neighbour Ibiza, but still benefits from that perfect Mediterranean climate. The island is dotted with white sandy beaches and clear, safe waters, as well as Roman and Moorish sites.

You might know it by its Anglicised spelling Majorca, as it’s been a popular holiday destination for British families for decades. The seaside resorts are set up with families in mind, with plenty to do with the kids as well as opportunities to relax and recharge.

We've consulted the popular Mumsnet Holiday forum to get insight from real parents about the best family-friendly hotels and apartments in Mallorca. As ever, well-travelled Mumsnetters haven't disappointed so if you're looking to book a Balearic break with the family, we've got you covered.

What Mumsnet users say

"We've stayed at Puerto Azul a couple of times with Jet2 Holidays. If you think a 9pm bedtime is doable then the mini disco was always 8.30 - 9pm every night and kids absolutely loved it. Buffet dinner not usually my thing but it was pretty nice as these things go and took the hassle out of having to think about dinner every night. Great location too" - recommended by Mumsnet user, TheMildManneredMilitant

Our verdict

Less than 100 metres from one of Mallorca’s best beaches in Port de Pollença, the Puerto Azul Suite Hotel is Mumsnetters’ pick for the best family hotel in Mallorca. With its vast, kid-friendly pool and beautiful mountain views, each suite has a terrace or a balcony so you can sit outside after the children are in bed.

Mumsnetters say the buffet-style breakfast is particularly good at the Puerto Azul. If lounging on the beach or by the pool isn’t your thing, head to the nearby marina or explore Alucida’s pretty old town.

"Lagotel in Alcudia was good and very child friendly" - recommended by Mumsnet user, Juanbablo

Our verdict

A family-friendly hotel that won’t break the bank? Step forward the Eix Lagotel, a lakeside resort with a big pool, clean, air conditioned apartments and plenty to keep the kids entertained. The beach is 10 minutes’ walk away, but there’s everything you need on-site including a gym, three pools, tennis courts, mini golf, a sauna and a hot tub.

The hotel is right next to the S’Albufera Nature Reserve, and there are mountains a few miles inland, if you fancy a bit of adventure between beach days.

What Mumsnet users say

"It’s not on a beach but the Migjorn hotel in Mallorca is a rural hotel which is really nice. It is family run and very family friendly. It's a few years since we stayed but we found it a great place to stay with a 3-year-old and baby" - tried and tested by Mumsnet user, Magentastardust

Our verdict

Get away from the main tourist areas in Mallorca by heading to the countryside. The Migjorn is a beautiful rural finca aimed at families, with private apartments set in 35 acres of countryside. There’s an 80 square metre pool which is heated in the low season, making it a lovely destination for a sunny autumn break. The peaceful Es Trenc beach is just five minutes away, so you won’t miss out on those crystal-clear Mediterranean waters. The hotel offers cots, junior beds, prams, potties and toys on request, plus there’s even a family doctor available round the clock for peace of mind.

Choose from a sea or mountain view suite, both of which sleep four in style and have a private terrace or balcony. There’s a family pool and a kids' club which is free for under 12s. Staff can book excursions such as orange grove tours, sunset boat trips and even helicopter rides.

What Mumsnet users say

"I’ve stayed at Villa Concha twice. We love it there - my boys are 5 and 10. There is a mini playground, mini football nets, great pools for kids and adults and good slides. It’s not too big and it’s friendly and clean. It’s a quick walk to the beach and 10 minutes to the main harbour area, town square etc. It's a great location" - tried and tested by Mumsnet user, MaryR125

Our verdict

For a holiday where everything is taken care of, Villaconcha Hotel and Apartments is a great choice. It has several kid-friendly pools, loads of activities and each room comes with a private balcony. Breakfast can be served in your room free of charge, which is always a godsend with kids. The nearest beach is just a few minutes’ walk away, and there are diving and horse riding experiences available locally.

Our verdict

With 11 hotels dotted around Mallorca, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the Zafiro chain. Mumsnetters like the Zafiro Mallorca, which is sandwiched between the beautiful Can Picafort beach and S’Albufera National Park. Staying at the Zafiro Mallorca gives you access to an epic collection of outdoor pools, as well as a sauna, a hot tub and an indoor pool. The suites have a kitchenette, which always makes travelling with kids (and catering to their varied eating habits) that bit easier.

What Mumsnet users say

"The Viva hotels are great. Smallish chain of very well run hotels with loads going on for kids. Have a look at their website. Mainly aimed at under 8s I'd say. Good for adults too - good food and lovely cocktails on all-inclusive" - recommended by Mumsnet user, littlequestion

Our verdict

Travelling with little ones can be a real chore, and once you get to your destination you’re definitely going to be ready for a break. The VIVA Sunrise has everything you need for a relaxing stay with babies and toddlers, including pools, a playground, a mini market stocked with essentials and friendly, English-speaking staff. Each suite has a kitchenette and a private terrace or balcony, and it’s just a five-minute walk to the nearest beach.

Nearest airport: Palma de Mallorca (28.3 miles)

9. Best hotel in Mallorca for teenagers: Blue Sea Ses Cases d'Or, Cala d´Or

a swimming pool on a sunny day in Mallorca

Check availability on Hotels.com | Check availability on Booking.com

What Mumsnet users say

"We like Cala D’or a lot but we have teens. I like the fact it’s compact, we don’t need a car. The marina with restaurants has a different vibe from the town. Beaches are small there though if that’s your thing (I prefer pool). Certainly not a party town (no nightclubs) just busy" - recommended by Mumsnet user, NaturalBlondeYeahRight

Our verdict

Venture out of the hotel complex with your teens to explore the town of Cala D’Or. The Blue Sea Ses Cases Hotel provides a more grown-up base for your holiday, with a variety of sleeping arrangements and family apartments available. On-site you’ll find tennis, football, swimming, a gym and a pizzeria. There are plenty of smaller beaches nearby to choose from, all within walking distance, and Cala D’Or has restaurants serving traditional Spanish dishes.

Is Mallorca good for families?

Mallorca is a brilliant destination for a family holiday. Kids of all ages are well-catered for at the many hotels and resorts on the island. If you’re looking for something a bit different, Mallorca also has mountains and nature reserves to enjoy. Its capital, Palma, has lots of historic buildings and an aquarium - perfect to explore as a family. When you’ve finished sightseeing, head to one of the many friendly tapas restaurants to sample local delicacies.

Which area is best for families to stay in Mallorca?

Alcudia and Port de Pollença are favourites for Mumsnetters travelling with children. These areas have wide, clean beaches and turquoise sea to swim in, plus loads of activities to keep the kids entertained.

How can you get a good deal on a family-friendly hotel in Mallorca?

If you can, travel outside of the UK school holidays as prices shoot up everywhere as soon as school’s out. Mallorca’s hot season runs from April-September so it’s a great spot for some off-season sunshine.

Savings can be made by going all-inclusive. As you’ve got guaranteed sun, you can get away with spending very little while you’re on holiday if you opt for your food to be included in the room rate.

What’s the best family-friendly hotel in Mallorca?

Puerto Azul Suite Hotel is our pick for the best family-friendly hotel in Mallorca. It’s popular with Mumsnetters thanks to its great location, good food and family-oriented atmosphere.
