Emirates Palace hotel puts you in the lap of luxury. This hotel spans 1.2 miles wing-to-wing and offers 0.8 miles of coastline. There is so much on offer, that you won’t feel the need to leave the hotel during your entire stay.

Inside, the hotel truly feels like a palace with its Arabesque décor and gold-gilded ceilings. Take in the various art and artefacts as you wander through its vast corridors. Inside, the palace feels a little aloof, but as soon as you step out into its lush green gardens, adventure awaits.

There are two swimming pools. Adults can enjoy the Las Brisas Pool, located in the East Wing Beach Club. It features a large jacuzzi under a charming gazebo, and three smaller bubble pools attached to the main swimming pool with a swim-up bar.

Families can luxuriate in the larger adventure pools, located in the West Wing Beach Club. Water activities include a tranquil Lazy River run, cascading waterfalls, two water flumes, and a pool activities area. Children are in for a ton of fun at ‘Sarab Land’ where experienced child-minders will guide them through activities and games. An outdoor play zone is also available.

A reimagined Armed Forces Officers Club, ERTH Abu Dhabi is one of the city's most activity-packed family resorts. And it makes a great base, right next door to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

It’s not flashy in the way some big-name Abu Dhabi resorts are, but that’s what I loved about it. And there’s so much to do from the Olympic-sized pool to the football pitches, tennis courts and kids club.

My kids loved the pool, the beach and the bowling alley the most – and we all appreciated how wiped out they were by bedtime.

The beach is beautiful but note there's no shallow, shaded spots that make toddler paddling easy. And while the food was flavourful, it's a little limiting for fussy eaters (brilliant if your kids are into hummus, grilled fish and breads though).

ERTH might not be an obvious choice for an Abu Dhabi family hotel but it’s definitely worth considering. It’s well-designed and ideal for families who want a mix of beach, activity, and a bit of cultural context too.
