Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Reddit has just banned the r/detrans subreddit

AnotherLass · 10/07/2020 20:10

It had about 13,000 subscribers, growing very rapidly. There were a range of views on there, but a lot of it was just people offering each other personal support

They can't get away with this, surely?

they also banned 'truelesbians', because if you don't think lesbians have a penis you are an evil evil hate criminal, evidently.

www.reddit.com/r/truelesbians

like how dare lesbians have a space for lesbians, it's just so hateful.

stop hating.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/07/2020 20:25

That's ridiculous!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 10/07/2020 20:27

But cancel culture doesn't exist does it??

Michelleoftheresistance · 10/07/2020 20:28

Bunch of toddlers with their hands over their eyes, believing if they can't see it it's stopped existing.

Sorry guys. Reality's a bastard.

NeutralJanet · 10/07/2020 20:29

ActualWomen and GenderCriticalGuys gone too.

Hulo · 10/07/2020 20:32

r/detrans weren't even gender critical. They just had vulnerable people sharing their stories and experiences and trying to support one another.

Totally irresponsible.

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/07/2020 20:32

Wow it’s shocking how transparent they are isn’t it!? 😮

Sushiroller · 10/07/2020 20:33

A fucking disgrace

rogdmum · 10/07/2020 20:35

I’m so upset about this. It was the one community and support group detransitioners had. I’m reading all the tweets by detransitioners about it right now and it’s incredibly sad. I hope someone can set up a new forum somewhere that is easily found.

Reddit is nothing more than a TRA/MRA platform now.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/07/2020 20:45

Just awful.

OvaHere · 10/07/2020 20:45

LGBDroptheT gone too at about 20 k subscribers

Oxyiz · 10/07/2020 20:47

Scary. Really scary. Those young people were desperately seeking help.

And now their voices have been erased.

contactusdeletus · 10/07/2020 20:50

I'm not surprised, as we all knew the way Reddit was going. But I'm heartbroken for all the detransitioners who have just lost a valued resource and a much-needed community. I also feel for all those who would have read the forum or used it as a sounding board while they decided if detransition was right for them.

Detransitioners are already nigh on invisible. It just seems so cruel to take away one of the few online spaces they had.

I'm not a bit surprised the lesbian subs have got the chop. It's the fate of every lesbian space that holds firm on the exclusion of trans women. It still angers me though. They really have the gall to pretend they're not attacking us. They really behave as if J.K Rowling was talking utter shit when she claimed lesbians and gay men are losing the right to discuss our same sex attracted realities.

Would actually love to see the trans activists and their allies try to defend this. There's no way to spin this that isn't the simple truth - ten trans-inclusive spaces can exist but if even one space exists to exclude them, they'll try and get it shut down. Out of sheer spite.

FloralBunting · 10/07/2020 20:50

So, to get my internet geography right, reddit is where all the MRA/Incels rule the roost, and Twitter is the natural playground for MAPs and other assorted delights? Nice to know the places not to go because the creepy people live there.

ArriettyJones · 10/07/2020 20:53

Bloody hell.

It’s as if we sold the town square into private ownership and now the owners all admiring the Emperor’s new clobber and banning us all from commenting.

Who allowed the internet to become structured like this? Couldn’t Berners-Lee have done something cleverer than simply allowed the WWW to be a free for all?

Siablue · 10/07/2020 20:53

This is just awful. How can they openly support rape porn but actively block one of the most vulnerable groups in society from being able to support each other.

They also deleted the Joanne Rowling group which was to discuss JKR and a group about women’s health. I have lost it now. I am deleting the app and telling them why.

picklemewalnuts · 10/07/2020 20:54

That's shockingly transparent. How can they justify targeting

Gender critical people
People talking about transitioning
Lesbians...

While allowing pretty much every perverse and violent fantasy.

Oxyiz · 10/07/2020 20:54

It seems to still be up from my Google search? Does it just take a while to vanish?

OvaHere · 10/07/2020 20:56

Whilst I can totally believe they banned the detrans sub and it's obvious why they did it, it's so utterly callous and chilling.

AnotherLass · 10/07/2020 20:58

It seems to be back up

I think they realised that this was going to blow their game wide open

OP posts:
DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 10/07/2020 20:58

I dont think this does good things for reddit

The whole point of reddit was a space where basically you could say what you wanted. This is why its been so loved by MRAs/Incels. It scares me how powerful the TRA movement is that it can get somewhere like reddit to essentially cancel women?

That thread wasnt transphobic, it was written by trans people! Its trying to tipex over the fact that detransition exists, in the hope the public wont notice

ArriettyJones · 10/07/2020 21:00

So they’re flip flopping?

OvaHere · 10/07/2020 21:01

Yes it appears to be back up.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 10/07/2020 21:04

Detrans is back (for now, who knows how long)
But the others mentioned in this thread aren’t.

Siablue · 10/07/2020 21:05

Oh good. There are so few spaces for retransmission people that they need this.
