Women’s Place - cancelled Leeds meeting

Came across this FOI request regarding the cancellation of the booking - it’s been updated today.

www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/womens_place_uk_booking?nocache=incoming-1257930#incoming-1257930

As well as publishing all their emails about cancelling the booking and redrafts of the press release, Leeds council today, accidentally published the name and phone number of the person who made the original booking - since been removed. I can’t believe they actually did that...

Hoping that’s a clicky link.

This pursuit may take a long time but it will deter other councils in the meantime from such behaviour. Transparency will be required. They can't get away with it any more.

arranfan · 01/11/2018 13:45

You may also contact the Commissioner via his website at [2]www.ico.gov.uk

Loth as I am to correct an Information Governance Officer I rather think the current Commissioner is Elizabeth Denham. Denham has been in this role since July 2016.

So they are very careful not to release the contents of e-mails that they used to take this decision, but are very lax with the name and phone number of the person booking the venue Hmm

Goldenbuzzer · 01/11/2018 14:04

Yup - wonder if they have contacted the person who made the booking to tell them. ( I’m guessing not)

My thoughts exactly.

burble burble burble burble burble bomb threats burble burble violence burble burble burble.

Ereshkigal · 01/11/2018 14:18

So lax that they'd better hope nothing untoward happens to this person as a result as they might be liable for a hefty payout under GDPR/new data protection rules which came in in May.

I wonder if they're required to report it anyway - and within 72 hours of being notified that it occurred?

Ereshkigal · 01/11/2018 14:26

I would imagine they are absolutely required to report it under their own public sector guidelines, if not law.

kendoddsdadsdogsdead18 · 01/11/2018 14:36

Can anyone see a form that notes the title as 'a woman's peace is speaking the truth?' They seem to be insinuating they were lead to believe the meeting was about immigration.

AverageAvenger · 01/11/2018 14:48

Yes, I’ve see it. It’s clearly bollocks. It’s just that the L has been written over an initial spelling error. They knew long before then that it was Place anyway.

kendoddsdadsdogsdead18 · 01/11/2018 14:50

It looks like they will try and hinge part of their defence on being mis led.

Imnobody4 · 01/11/2018 17:48

Those emails are appalling. Isn't Jessica's email libellous -can a councillor really get away with that?

Beamur · 01/11/2018 17:58

www.leeds.gov.uk/your-council/councillors-and-democracy/code-of-conduct
This is how to complain about councillor conduct.

Juells · 01/11/2018 18:36

Notice how sneaky it all is... even the seemingly innocuous alteration of 'meeting' to 'event' is attempting to blur the fact that it's a group meeting to discuss proposed changes to the law.

They're like a bunch of gleeful hyenas, figuring out how to fuck women over and get away with it.

I'm surprised some of those emails didn't disappear.

QuietContraryMary · 01/11/2018 19:26

What a bunch of shits.

"The Civic Hall is a public building and the safety of staff and visitors is our primary concern. The organisers of the event had withheld the location for this reason. "

"In addition to security concerns [because what? violent feminists?] we would not want to provide a platform for those using hate speech or expressing views which are Transphobic. We have therefore decided that Leeds Civic Hall is not an appropriate venue for this event and have informed the organisers that their booking has been cancelled.

Kind Regards,
Geoff Turnbull"

However

"Not only has this group been allowed to book a room at the Civic Hall
for their hate rally, they have seemingly also secured security protection and special treatment. "

QuietContraryMary · 01/11/2018 19:30

The incompetent/malicious fucks have STILL left the name & mobile number of the person who booked the room in the pdf even the second time around.

Absolute useless shower of shit.

AverageAvenger · 01/11/2018 19:31

I am so fucking angry.

Popchyk · 01/11/2018 19:55

MESMAC involved very early on in trying to get it shut down.

Interesting that the council would seek and take advice about a group of women meeting to discuss their rights from a charity for men who have sex with men.

This is a charity who had a convicted paedophile director (jailed earlier this year) and who had to shut down one of their projects earlier this year after investigation from the Charity Commission.

OldCrone · 01/11/2018 19:59

Where are you seeing this? I can't see anything like that in the link posted by the OP. The only mobile number is for Jessica Lennox who was the councillor who got the meeting cancelled, and there are a few phone numbers (presumably work numbers) for other people at the civic hall. Am I looking at a different document?

OldCrone · 01/11/2018 20:03

This is the email exchange from the link. I can't see any name for the person who made the booking, it's just Woman's Place UK.
