Speech given as part of WPUK meeting in Basingstoke.
thread discussing the meeting here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3237493-Basingstoke-Womens-Place-UK-Meeting-17-May-MNs-SwearyG-speaking-Title-Edited-by-MNHQ

(extract)
"I’ve called ManFriday a movement, I think a better word might be concept. We are a loosely organised group of women who are horrified by the implications of self identification and the resultant erasure of women. We are making a stand against what is happening by self identifying as men on Fridays. We show how preposterous it is to be able to self-declare as the opposite sex by doing exactly that.

This all came about when Amy Desir took it upon herself to address the ludicrous guidance Swim England produced to engage trans people in swimming. This guidance, soundly rejected by the good ladies of Mumsnet, included such gems as telling us women who object to penises in their changing rooms require education, whilst our boobs should be covered at all times for fear of causing offence. Amy started a Mumsnet thread one Friday morning in February telling us that she had arranged a meeting at her local pool to discuss her inclusion in men only swimming sessions as a self identified man in accordance with the guidance....

(concludes)
No act is too small. Two women went for a swim and helped smash no debate wide open. I certainly didn’t expect us to get the coverage and traction we did, but there is no way I will squander it now. The mainstream press is talking, the public is talking, the people in power might not be listening yet, but some of them are asking to meet with gender critical feminists. The tide is turning. Let’s keep the pressure up to ensure it doesn’t turn back.

I am not afraid to speak the truth.

A woman cannot have a penis.

Men do not belong in female spaces.

I support the rights of women and girls.

My name is Hannah Clarke. But I may as well be any one of you."

Great speech, Hannah. I particularly liked the points about Swim England's policy that penises in women's changing rooms are fine but women's breasts must be covered.

Fantastic. Articulate, and expresses exactly what the problem is, I think the swim England guidance highlights the skewed agenda so well - women must put up with penises in their spaces but must not be allowed to bare their own breasts. The more people who see this the more will realise the ridiculous nature of self ID.

I am not afraid to speak the truth. A woman cannot have a penis. Men do not belong in female spaces. I support the rights of women and girls. My name is Hannah Clarke. But I may as well be any one of you

Loved this.

Sarah - It's very relevant to the GRA - because one of the amendments proposed is self id - and you are very aware about this, because you've been talking about it on your own thread for 2 days.

(Unless, of course, you're not reading women's responses properly, which I do strongly suspect).

How is that not about the amendments to the GRA?

Great stuff Hannah!

The event was billed as "A discussion on the Gender Recognition Act". However, having read Sweary's speech it does not mention the Gender Recognition Act (or the proposed changes) at all.

Man Friday isn't about self-ID? Deary me. I've heard it all now.

(Fabulous speech, Sweary.)

The event was billed as "A discussion on the Gender Recognition Act". However, having read Sweary's speech it does not mention the Gender Recognition Act (or the proposed changes) at all. The speech is just an ideological (and transphobic) rant.

You’ve just been arguing about this on another thread... Grin so yeah I think you’re aware.

The only ranting I see is not from ManFriday. Hannah’s protest mode is polite, supremely British, one might say, civilised and thought provoking.

If you think a knob in the female changing area is fine but boobs in the Male pool are grossly offensive then I think you need to examine why you think that.

Just shout transphobia loudly and repeatedly, that seems to be working for the TRAs. Not so much on here though.

So good Sweary!
It is not easy to challenge the status quo - but it has to be done or we will walk into a situation where we have men, women and the "non men" women, us
So all of you, get out there and push back : be men on Friday!
