One of the Manfriday women will be speaking. It's on a Thursday though so we'll be hearing from her female incarnation!

come to amazingstoke, the birth place of Jane Austen.

Days of the week are a social construct aren’t they? Thursday is the new Friday (or at least was in 1997 so that must be back in fashion now).

Really looking forward to this Smile

BlackeyedSusan · 02/05/2018 23:27

surely it will be friday down under. perhaps she can self id as an aussi or kiwi and thus a man on man friday.

SwearyG · 03/05/2018 18:06

Bumping this as it dropped off the front page after all the shenanigans of the last 24 or so hours.

Tickets available here

ReluctantCamper · 03/05/2018 18:35

with some of the odder modding decisions on here recently, real life meet ups become even more important I think.

so, this is my home town and suddenly I am thinking of pinning my viewpoint to the mast.

I'm a bit scared, but I think I might go.

Having Maria Miller as our MP makes this all the more important.

ReluctantCamper · 03/05/2018 20:19

come rememberthetime. I went to the Oxford meeting and honestly it wasn't scary at all. I had a little chin wag with some of the protesters.

And I got to chat with some lovely young police officers in tight t-shirts Grin.

The speeches were pretty good too!

rememberthetime what ReluctantCamper says is bang on. The protesters at Oxford were more intimidating as an idea than they were in practice. They were bricking it, I think, they all looked terrified when we tried to engage them. None of them would come to the pub with us either.

The speeches were great. All were really accessible, all interesting and all different. No pressure for this time Wink

Wanderabout · 03/05/2018 20:43

Do go rememberthetime

I was scared too but it was just a bunch of students protesting.

It was fabulous and I met some amazing women and amazing transwomen.

DebbieInBirmingham · 03/05/2018 23:11

Please do go @rememberthetime. Just be careful, though! These meetings can get addictive. ;)

JustABrokenDoll · 03/05/2018 23:37

Just bought my ticket Smile

LostMyLunchMoney · 04/05/2018 06:58

I've just bought my ticket - feeling excited about the meeting but a bit nervous about going there on my own,

ReluctantCamper · 04/05/2018 07:52

yay! got to meet a couple of fabulous mumsnetters at the last one - looking forward to meeting more

Smile

17th May is also the International Day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 04/05/2018 08:50

I also went to the Oxford one and I echo the above.
The idea of the protesters was threatening (I was expecting being stuck in a bloody staircase with a load of shouty men) but it wasn't like this at Oxford.

They just shouted their thing and didn't talk at all with anyone. Even with Debbie, who tried her hardest!

It was so interesting. I'm really glad I made the effort and I will be at the Amazingstoke one too.

SwearyG · 04/05/2018 09:07

Well that’s nice Tanith. It’s pleasing that WPUK is neither homophobic, biphobic or transphobic then isn’t it. For a bonus point it’s also not lesbophobic. Why is that not included?

Tanith · 04/05/2018 09:38

No idea, Sweary. I saw it first on our local university LGBT site. Curiously, that one doesn’t mention Biphobia either.

So I popped onto Wiki to find out more about it. That doesn’t mention Lesbophobic either. Presumably, they think Homophobic covers it.

Hopefully the usual suspects will be too busy at their own organised events to bother the Women’s Place one.
Unless, of course, they are more interested in rabble-rousing than in celebrating their identity.

SuitedandBooted · 04/05/2018 13:50

Only around 20 miles from me ! Checking work stuff now.....

Flikka40 · 06/05/2018 18:28

I'm planning to go too. The Oxford one was great. Hopefully we can meet in pub beforehand.

cistersofterfy · 06/05/2018 18:59

It started as IDAHO - international day against homophobia but has expanded.

I've heard it recently referred to as IDAHOBIT.

just a little reminder that this is only a week away - still time to book tickets if you fancy an evening of interesting feminist conversation!
