Does it work on its own

I do a work out with weights 3/4 times a week and walk 40 minutes most days. I've been ill recently and not felt well enough to do my weight sessions. I've been doing yoga for 30 minutes instead which I've really enjoyed.
Does yoga tone your body on its own or do people who do yoga also do weights?
All the utube yoga teachers look very toned but as most of its body weight I wondered if they did weights sessions too?
Has anyone got a really toned body just from doing yoga? (I know diet plays a big part too)

Yes I think it works on its own. You won't get a sculpted body but you will have subtle definition and a core strength that weights can't achieve because yoga works micro-muscles that weights don't.

I only do yoga (gentle and v strenuous) and it’s taken two years to build definition (most of that in the past 6 months since I now have the strength). It could have been achieved much quicker using weights, but I wasn’t after tone. I am slim and never seem to build big muscles regardless of how much I walk or work out. However, my body is the strongest it’s ever been.

Toning means building muscle.

Yoga is a bodyweight exercise so does develop muscle. But not as well as weights do. So if your aim is to develop muscle then don't give up weights. Or, give up weights and accept that you won't build much muscle.

If you want muscle definition, do Pilates instead. This will give you strength, stability and mobility.
