Hi,

I’m thinking of booking a yoga retreat has anybody got experience with attending one?

Yes I've been on a few in uk and abroad. They're great!

The only thing I wasn't keen on was sharing a room with random people, so on some I've paid extra for a private room.

Mam576 · 03/03/2022 17:01

Are there any specific ones you recommend?

Not big company ones you can pay to join, the ones I've gone on have all been via my teacher.

Do you have a Buddhist centre near you? They often arrange lots of retreats.

I've had done lovely yoga holidays, but always with a known teacher who chose the location and arranged the event, so it was familiar yoga with just more sunshine and lovely views.

I wouldn't take a risk on an unknown teacher. There is such variability in yoga, that I would want to know what I was letting myself in for before spending a whole week together. There is probably plenty of time to get to know some teachers if you do see something that looks interesting.

A good place to start would be to keep an eye on likely venues, then try out a few lessons with anyone whose approach you think you might like.

I have enjoyed https://huzurvadisi.com , https://yogaforall.ie/retreats/ and

Among many others.

I've been on loads, always with a familiar teacher. They're great but I hate the room sharing thing and the extra for a single supplement is £££. Would rather not go with a friend either as see it as "me" time. I love the yoga but find the enforced socialising hard.

Oh I agree. I went on one and the yoga was great but I shared a room with two other ladies - who were lovely people - but started most sentences with ‘my husband…’ Other women there just talked non stop about their kids. I found it pretty exhausting to be honest

Lovely one in the lake district with a studio called Jasmine Yoga.

Agree you have to know the teacher is a good fit for you.

And personally I couldn't share a room. Would need my own so that bunk bed style wouldn't work for me.

It’s a pity that they don’t get adults’ need for privacy in these yoga retreats. We’re not teenagers at a slumber party. It’s lovely to meet people and have a chat over dinner etc but the incessant chat day & night is just exhausting & takes away from the benefits of the yoga.

doadeer · 17/03/2022 22:12

It's just about cost. A lot of premises don't have enough single rooms. It's hard to find a venue that caters for 30+ single rooms

doadeer · 17/03/2022 22:13

20+ I meant to say

I went in one last nov. La crisalda 40m from alicante. Basic rooms, all vegan food and up to 3 yoga classes a day. Diffetent teachers and different abilities. They also ran group walks, meditation and workshops all optional. I really enjoyed it and woukd recommend it as an affordable yoga break x

@Coconut80

Thanks for that tip. Just looked it up and it sounds nice. Which accommodation option did you go for & were you happy with it? Did you go there alone?

Coconut80 · 22/03/2022 20:43

I had a twin room with my sister. The accom was very basic think dated shower, wicker settee covered in a throw and hideous dark wood furniture. However it was very clean. The vegan food was lovely and you can choose juices. The yoga is on a rooftop terrace which is lovely. There is a magnesium pool which is nice. It included your airport transfers. The workshops werent good and ypu can pay for extra massages etc but was very pricey. Some people shared a 2 room apartment with a stranger, sharing a bathroom. I thought it was very good value for money but def not luxe. It was very international and a real mix of guests yogis to stressed business men who were juicing and friends. Id like to go back at some point x
