So, I’m overweight (really quite a lot, but working on that with SW), unfit and don’t like gyms. I do like yoga- I’ve been doing classes for about 2 years, only 1 a week but now I’m doing practice at home using an app a couple of times a week.
This week I have managed side planks and plough pose! I’ve never managed them before. 😀
If you are a yoga novice (or more advanced!) what have you managed to do for the first time recently?

I can do that crow pose if I don't breathe Grin

QueenofLouisiana · 14/02/2019 18:45

Grin breathing is over-rated! I can’t breathe in plough pose really.

I can do elbow balance and manage to hold the pose for about five seconds on a good day. I have to kick up using the wall though and then move my legs off. It's taken me two years to get this far.

I can do a core focused practice and still laugh the next day without wincing Grin

Dancer's pose without falling over Grin.
OP, which app do you use?

Ooh good thread! As a PP said I too can now do crow. Been going to yoga regularly for about 2y & nailed the crow about 12m in.

About 6m ago I got headstands, before I just couldn't bear to put all that weight on my head.

I got up into what the teacher calls a wheel last night but I know as crab. Hadn't been there in ages.

Current nemesis is camel. I just don't want to go back.

Love to hear what progress others have made, yoga has some great little wins.

Yoga is my answer to everything, all the little wins make you feel so good! I actually started practicing at home, then went to local gym classes, and now I’m a Yoga Teacher! BUT still can’t breathe in plough or hold crow for more than a split second Halo

I did a very wobbly side crow recently (then fell on my face).

This is why I love yoga so much, there’s no ‘end goal’

I remember feeling like I’d never master touching my toes at one stage.

Another big one for me was half moon pose, it took me so long and then it finally just worked.

Got into full Bird of Paradise for the first time this week.

And immediately burst out laughing because it seems I learn the same lesson EVERY time – as soon as I stop trying so damn hard and focus on relaxing and allowing my body into something, I can do it.

How is it that it happens over and over again, and I forget the lesson so quickly?!

What I tend to find is I make progress in a pose I haven't been really working on in when I am focused on progressing in another pose.

Minor triumphs recently have been being able to hold dolphin without hating every second of it. And I held crow for a nano-second this morning, but I think I've got the right feeling now so hopefully I can increase this!
