I’m new to going to the gym, have a coupe of stones to lose and am getting into a nice routine of different classes.

I would love to give yoga a try but would feel silly at a class at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a good way to learn the basic poses please?Smile

Lots of gyms and studios offer beginner classes. If not, learning how to do sun salutations, the basic warrior positions are a good start as these are normally the basis of most vinyasa classes (that’s the style that flows from position to position) - there are variations available for when you are new to yoga.

Yoga classes can be intimidating at first but after a couple you will gain confidence. Obviously you can practice at home but it helps to have a teacher who checks your alignment so you don’t injure yourself.

Good luck!

Please go, I was a beginner too and I’m still not very flexible but it makes me feel 2 inches taller after a class. The key is to find an instructor you like, they all teach differently even Hatha yoga teachers will have their own style, I wish I’d started years ago. Also I second YouTube, there’s loads of classes from 10mins to much longer. Also any good yoga teacher lets you work to your own limits, don’t worry what everyone else is doing around you.
