Grip dot mat - isn't non slip!

I have my own mat but bought a grip dot mat to use on top of the school's mats if I can't take my own. I do power yoga.

Tonight I used it for the first time, dots up on top of the studio's mat, and it was really slippery! I couldn't jump through, and even found my feet slipping in v basic poses eg down dog.

Eventually I took it off my mat and carried on without it, which is a disappointment given it was 25 quid.

Am I doing it wrong? Should I have washed it first to make it more slip-resistant?

Thank you!

Do you mean a yoga towel?

Yes I probably do!

I would have washed it before use. I've got a Manduka one I've had for a couple of years I don't slip on it but it does move around my mat a bit. Yoga teacher suggested spraying the areas you place your hands and feet with water and this has helped a bit keeping it in place.

That’s really helpful. Thank you so much. I see others use them in class with not a problem and could not work out what my problem was.

Thanks!
