Can you please recommend a good yoga mat?

Preferably on Amazon to take to classes with me? I don't have much to spend--around £20/maybe £30 at most?

Not on Amazon, but the yogamatters own brand mat comes in lots of colours and lasted me pretty well. I have a Manduka now which is amazing, but was crazy £££

There was another thread on here with cheap but good yoga mat suggestions. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks. I found the earlier posts. I think I'll try yogamatters. But does anyone have suggestions for how thick a mat I should go for? It's for Ashtanga yoga on wooden floors.

3mm to 5mm thickness is good.

Alternatively, you can get a 1mm "mat" and just put it over the mat provided in the yoga studio. Guaranteed clean and non-slippery surface, and you don't have to carry a heavy mat around town.

Have you got a Tiger store near you? I got a lovely one from there and it doessn't slip at all.

What is a Tiger store, please. Sounds like I place I might visit next time I'm in London.

I never thought about Tiger! We have a store close by. The classes are in a woman's house (only 4-5 people) so there's no mats provided and the floor is hard. I will look in Tiger first

Please can someone help me with a recommendation for a non-shedding yoga mat? I am on my third rubber yoga mat this year and I am fed up of having to hoover up the tiny bits of purple/pink/blue rubber that eventually come off the mat.

I have a lovely Manuka yoga mat I got in TK Maxx - think it was substantially less than £25. I also have an ashtanga yoga cotton job bought from a famous yoga instructor which is barely used as it is too hard and really large. But it's from him so I'll never get rid.
My favourite ever mat was a thin blue cheap one - first mat I ever bought. Never slipped, lasted really well. I left it at my parent's house and never saw it again. A close second were the thin cotton rugs we did ashtanga on at Yoga Plus in Crete - used to put them on top of the sticky mats. They'd get soaked with sweat then all boil washed at the end of the week. Again they were cheap but excellent.
My manuka one is good though. I once bought a really thick one and it was dreadful - I slipped and bounced all over the place.

What kind of cotton mats, Daily? I would think that any fabric would be quite slippery.

Manuka mats are indeed good. They take a lot of abuse in a studio I go to and they get better with age.

I think age is key - these were very simple thin cotton rugs and were quite old and used to lots of washing. the newer cotton Ashtanga rug I have is nothing like those ones from Yoga Plus.

Here's a picture of Derek Ireland on crete and pupil (Gingi Lee) is on one of these mats. And another of a class using them but they are less clear. I suspect they were bought in bulk in India for 25p but they did the job brilliantly! However not on their own, only on top of the sticky mat.

I swear by yogamatters suregrip latex mats - amazing grip for Ashtanga! Pricy (£50ish) but totally worth every penny.
