Yoga

Chakras..do they 'exist' or is it just a way to think about bits of your body?

Hello, I have been listening to a lot of these chakra things and I do sometimes feel my third eye relaxing, but is it really a thing or just me thinking about different bits of my body.

Also is ASMR related to meridians?

I'm a bit of a sceptic, so would lean towards "No, they don't actually exist but are good for visualisation & feel-good purposes". No offence Smile

I've come round to thinking that chakras are simply the natural 'locks' in the body - anus, diaphragm, oesophagus, etc. I don't think it's as mysterious as the 'New Age nay-sayers' make it out to be. Likewise prana/qi. It's just the natural energy that powers the body.

of course they do not
BUT
its really good to focus on the body in particular ways
hence I love yoga

I think the chakras correspond with groups of nerve endings: solar plexus, heart, thyroid.

I have my own (completely made up) theory that certain yoga positions work to stimulate these groups of nerves and the movement and breathing causes your muscles to massage out any blockages, or stimulate drainage in these parts of your body. I think of it like doing dry body brushing on the inside.

Well, I think we all know that they are a "thing" (as in, stuff some people talk about and believe in) but the question as I understood it was Do they really exist?

You can't see them if you dissect a body if thats what you mean by "real".

However the physical plane and our physical existence is an illusion or unreal in some schools of belief/thought. So my answer is - it depends Grin

yes they are energy centres. You can't see energy but you can feel it. I think asmr can be related. Sound is basically a form of energy on a different frequency. Science and woo can meet. We just need to figure it out.

I actually thing they are euphemisms for tension/weakness/imbalamce in areas of the spine and hips/sacrum. My spine has straigtened, stopped fringing on itself and occasionally i can be doing savasana and thinking about different tension either side of my body and it will spontaneously equal itself. When i feel only tiny bits of imbalamce in each bit, i dream better and am relaxed enough to see/feel other people's emotions before my own, which I guess is what the third eye thing is about. My problem area is definitely hips and sacrum.. and i have been through nearly two years of financial insecurity and vulnerability..and problems in the root chakra.are supposed to reflect exactly that..

I think systematically thinking about your body and emotions in order or separately works very well, so yes, they do exist in that sense. It would be interesting to see if you have different 'jobs' to them for different groups and saw if say poor and financially vulnerable people started getting tension where you said that chakra was supposed to be.
