Joining hot yoga- what to wear? Tips?

I'm joining a hot yoga class this week. It's not Bikram and seems very inclusive.

I'm pretty overweight and am also joining the gym this week too- had my last baby 7 weeks ago.

What do you wear to hot yoga? I'm assuming as little as possible but I'm so wobbly at the moment I'm not sure I'm brave enough to get it all out.

Any tips on anything else I might need to know?

Thanks

I used to wear knee length leggings and a vest top. For some of the poses it helps to be able to grip on the material as you can get a bit slidey in the sweat.

Prepare to sweat a lot! I am overweight and would wear 3/4 or knee length leggings and a loose-ish vest. Don't go too baggy as it will just fall upwards when u bend over.

Are you still bleeding? You definitely can't wear a pad to hot yoga as the sweating is copious. Also if you are bleeding some moves are not advised due to possible backflow. Google it.

Congratulations Smile How about loose and light crop pants + long best top? Don't forget to wear a tight sports bra. Enjoy.

Not much, but no need to necessarily go for a bikini either! Avoid anything too thick or cotton T shirt as it will be soaked and heavy and feel horrible. Comfy sports bra, capris and a vest top (as pp said, not too loose unless you aren't bothered about flashing your belly in downward dog (not that you should be, no one will bat an eyelid). Take it easy, drink plenty, rest when you need to, it can be tough getting used to the heat Smile.

Same as the others said - capris/ sports bra and longline vest top are fine. Make sure you are really hydrated before you go in. Try not to eat much in the two hours before you go.

Also, make sure you tell your teacher you have recently had a baby - my yoga studio recommend you leave it 3 months if you didn't have an established practice beforehand. Plus, you will still have relaxin in your body so you need to be really careful not to overstretch, especially in the heat.

Thanks all.
That's interesting about the relaxin - I hadn't thought it might be too early after birth to start- I feel completely back to normal but I'll tell the teacher and see what they say.

I hope I like it- I expect it takes a couple of sessions to get used to it?

So... How did it go? Are you enjoying hot yoga yet?
