Husband hasn't worked at job long enough to qualify for paternity

I am due Sept 27th, and my OH and I have been working out how long he has worked at his current job. He has only worked there 26 weeks. I think you have to work for 26 weeks from the 'qualifying' date which is 15 weeks before my due date.

I know he can take 1 or 2 weeks unpaid paternity, but I don't think we can afford it. His work are taking forever to find all this info out for him no matter how many time he asks, and I have had to find this out from the internet.

Will he be entitled to anything at all from the government if he takes unpaid leave?

Can't he just take annual leave. DH was in the same position and took a week's annual leave.

would £100 a week make that much difference?

why doesn't he book it as holiday?

PickUpYourPants · 06/07/2010 22:04

The SPP is so low that many opt to use 1 weeks holiday

Hhonestly. that £100 would maake all the difference, but I think you are all right, hols it is for him.

Hey - my dh just had to take annual leave as well because the paternity pay offered is only something like £120 a week (i think) so we definitely couldn't afford the drop. He just booked two weeks off on the understanding that he wouldn't be able to give a start day until labour started and they were fine with it.

We were in same boat - DH took A/L
