Hi there,

I am due to go back from my mat leave and considering all my options as my old job has disappeared (long story).

As I have a lot of corporate business experience (a bit of law, finance, mainly project management, which clearly covers a lot of disciplines/areas etc), I thought whether would be worth re-training as a company secretary?

Has anyone done it? What are the pluses and minuses? Does it take a long time to work your way up the ladder? What I wouldn't want to start from scratch completely iyswim.

Any advice/experiences would be great.

Hi, I know a couple of people who are company secretarys. One trained as an accountant (FCA) and the other as lawyer first. Both worked thier way up, ie accountant, finance director, company secretary.

The benefits (as I see it) are you get offered lots of part time non-exce director jobs when you retire.

I'm not sure how you would go about re-training as such, hopefully someone here will be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

Well, in my company the Co Sec works like a dog and rarely leaves on time.

It doesn't strike me as the most family friendly role but that may vary depending on where you work.

Ah thanks, I will do a bit more digging but it's not sounding too great so far! x
