should I have received a reply to my letter of resignation?

I have resigned from my current job while on sick leave. I wrote to the chair of govenors and the head teacher over a month ago. My resignation has been announced in staff briefing but I have not had a reply to my letter.

Is this usual or would / should you expect a reply?

Thanks

I would expect a reply, how would you know they've accepted your resignation and are not expecting you back otherwise.

Not that I have any experience of it. Just my thought.

I don't think I've ever had a written acknowledgment of my resignations. It seems a bit rude doesn't it, but I've always worked for NHS/councils so it's probably seen as a money saving practice. I received plenty of written confirmation when I was sacked 'relieved of my responsibilities' though!

I agree LAoKaS i think it is rude.

They are def. not expecting me back but even so I have worked there for 10 years and a little acknowledgement wouldn't kill em would it??

While a month may be a long time, an acknowledgement would be good. However, any resignations at my dcs school go up before the next meeting of the full governing body or the Staffing sub-committee, which are held approx twice per term. Then the Chair will write a letter back on behalf of the body, after we've discussed it in the meeting.

We discuss any resignations in case there are issues, eg someone leaving due to an incident. So far, the only resignations have simply been for people who are just moving on, and resignations have been very few; we have a good school according to Ofsted!
