I've just been made redundant

and am the sole breadwinner. Is apparently nothing to do with me but just the state of the business.

This is after a 6 week review of our business by an independent consultant who has now just been appointed as MD of the team I used to run as director.

I'm so gutted. No purpose to the post really just wanted to tell someone what a shoddy day I'm having.

OMG that is appalling - how do they think they can get away with it!!
If it went to tribunal they'd take them to the cleaners.....

alicatsg · 03/08/2005 14:54

its killing me being in the office. I actually feel physically sick.

My lawyer is on the case. I am hoping they pay me so much to go away quietly that we don't get to the tribunal point

OP posts:
Tortington · 03/08/2005 15:49

i hope you screw them over big time

ScummyMummy · 03/08/2005 16:02

Me too. You are one brave womanalicatsg. Hang in there, you consumate professional you. Hope your lawyer can do the business for you.

aloha · 03/08/2005 17:54

Yes, you want a BIG payoff, a glowing reference and to run off into a glorious new job laughing your head off. Bugger the tribunal - go for the money. I would say that you are looking at 40K as a starting figure. More if you are very highly paid.

alicatsg · 04/08/2005 11:29

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH

the F-ing HR woman has just told me she's on holiday next week so nothing will be moved on till after that. Is it unreasonable of me to expect them to plan a little better?? OOOOOH I'M SO CROSS.

On the plus side I have 2 interviews lined up already with the company's bitterest rivals. Shame that they haven't put any confidentiality clauses in the agreement isn't it...

OP posts:
jampots · 04/08/2005 11:33

if they've allowed you reasonable time off for interviews can you not just fill next week with interviews - especially round the coast somewhere

alicatsg · 04/08/2005 11:48

would rather have interviews in Paris, but yes thats a good idea.

Have decided to respond to trauma in typically female fashion - getting haircut and new makeup. That'll show em (eh?)

Go Girl!!!

acnebride · 04/08/2005 11:57

oooooooohhhhhhhh alicatsg. Would say something but aloha says it so much better.

Hope you're taking your clients who are all clearly v happy with your services with you. Hope the global client is up for repitch because they're not happy with the UT.

This reminds me so much of Talking 9 - 5 by Deborah Tannen. You're way beyond that but it's a great book.

alicatsg · 04/08/2005 12:00

have to say its been a huge help having all your support. I think there is only so much mindless ranting DH can take in a week.

Only just found this thread. Glad that they are already looking to reach a settlement and your job prospects are looking so promising.

Hope you get vast quantities of money - remember how hurt and insulted you are at the blatant discrimination after all those years of loyal service etc..

alicatsg · 04/08/2005 16:56

Just got revised settlement - £4k improvement. Pathetic. I'm so fuming.

And I just told me "stable" clients and he's called the new MD and put the account on notice. serves em right

OP posts:
Blackduck · 04/08/2005 18:49

4k improvement - are they taking the p*ss or what.....!

Twiglett · 04/08/2005 18:54

hang on .. 4K over what? statutory figures or initial redundancy offer?

be very very careful here in your expectations .. big money payouts are very very rare

also remember if you are filing for sex discrimination you have to file within 3 months of redundancy notice I believe

hang in there .. how lovely to hear your clients are behind you

alicatsg · 05/08/2005 19:47

over statuatory (sorry can't spell today). My lawyer has been great at advising me what I can and can't expect so I think I'm sort of aiming for a reaasonable figure - don't worry I'm not anticipating millions!!

My boss rang me last night and CRIED down the phone about how upset he is over this. Am I meant to care how he feels???? This whole thing is like a really bad B movie,

OP posts:
Twiglett · 05/08/2005 20:02

really?? what did you say?? was he expecting you to comfort him or tell him its ok? what a jerk

Blackduck · 06/08/2005 14:13

He cried!? I hope you gave him short shrift. Along the lines of I'm the one facing redundancy if anyone shoudl be crying it should be me!

alicatsg · 08/08/2005 12:12

I was v unsympathetic. Its like he was expecting me to think "oh thats ok then, I've lost my family's sole source of income, have a legal battle on my hands but at least he likes me". Yeah thats going to happen.

ARGH. Only 2 more weeks in this office.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 08/08/2005 12:32

Oh so you have to make him feel better?

You poor love. You hang on in there
xxxxxxxxxx

alicatsg · 08/08/2005 12:34

yes... being female I can empathise with his situation apparently. You see women are actually genetically given to forgiveness and understanding....

I can empathise a doubledecker bus right where the sun don't shine for him more like.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 08/08/2005 12:41

Have you talked to the EOC? Really well worth doing, I reckon. Especially if you've been pregnant/had a baby while you've been in employment there.

Nightynight · 08/08/2005 12:54

alicatsg, I just found this thread! am following with interest, and cheering you on.

alicatsg · 08/08/2005 13:15

I had the luck to find a vicious lawyer, he's all over them at the moment. They have come back with this agreement thing and it stops me working for any of their rivals... er no. If you don't want me to work for the competition you have to employ me.

Honestly it'd be funny if it weren't so f-ing serious.

OP posts:
alicatsg · 08/08/2005 13:47

OH MY GOD. My boss has just introduced me to 2 new directors he has hired for the business. Thats 2 people at my level (both male). Even allowing for the time between hiring them and them starting - actually I'm just shocked, I don't know what to think.

what the hell is happening to my life?
