When I go on mat leave what happens regarding my car allowance?

I get £75 a month on top of my wages as a compulsory car user. I assumed this would stop. BUT someone told me that if it was a company car then it would carry on so the allowance should.

Anyone any ideas?

I think it probably depends on your company's policy - they should spell it out for you in the handbook. My employer paid out the cash we have in reserve for benefits in addition to SMP - so you might continue to get, however if your company takes a hard line they might not as of course you won't need to use a car whilst not working...

It's local council so it won't be paid extra! I know what the pay deal is usually (basic!) but I never used to get this.

It's not 100% clear. Have a read here, there's a section on car allowances. Does it appear separately on your payslip as 'car allowance', and is it instead of a car, as in you could have had a car or others have a car and you have an allowance instead? The amount suggests that's not the case, it sounds like a bit of extra pay as a contribution towards your private car as you are required to use it for work. If that's the case you're probably not entitled to it, especially as you won't be required to use your car during your maternity leave. Everyone gets money rather than a car and it appears on payslip seperately. I'm not expecting to get it but just wondered!
