I don't get the Working tax credits system...

so it's worked out on LAST year's income, right?

So that's nil because I was on benefits (isn't it?), so according to HMRC calculator I will get nearly £700 a month WTC

That CAN NOT be right, surely?

Not always worked on last years. If this year is a difference of +/- £5(?)k you can ask for it to apply to current year.

It also depends if you have any childcare costs, as they are done on this years figures not last.

I get £255 a week in child tax credits, working tax credits and the childcare element of the WTC, for having 2 children in 2 days full day care and working 16hrs a week. So £700 a month could be correct.

Right, cos income is going to be a massive jump from benefits to employment... so I suppose I should ring them and ask really!
