Hello. I am due back to work in early May having been off for nearly 14 months by the time I get back. Work really pleased I am coming back and have been supportive of me working part time when I return.

I always planned to get pregnant quite soon after returning to work but I have ended up pregnant much sooner than that and I will be nearly 4 months gone by the time I return!! I will therefore only be back at work for 5 months before I bugger off again...

Has anyone else been in this situation and how did your employer react? I know this prob sounds a bit stupid but I keep thinking they will be angry or annoyed with me for doing this - is that a stupid thing to think? (my DH thinks it is!)

I was five months pg when I returned - so I was back for less than three months.

I'm sure they weren't thrilled but you're not the first and you won't be the last!

Best wishes with your pg.

Yup good point! That's what my DH says - he said even if they think that they would never say it to my face and if they don't want women to go on mat leave don't employ women of child bearing age!

Happened to me too. They tried to allocate me to a different position so that they could keep the person who had done the original maternity leave in the job. I did fight and returned to my original post. There's not alot they can do no matter how hacked off they are. Got a bit fed up with people saying "have'nt you had that baby yet?" at which point you have to point out that yes you did have the baby and in my case this was now number 4 due exactly one year after no.3. I did get some maternity pay but if I remember correctly only just qualified for it so check this out

I did this; I had a year off and went back 3 months pregnant. Fortunately my boss was a father himself - his wife was my age - and I think he half expected it. It also helped that in my job, where I had to be an expert on emerging technologies, actually having my maternity leaves close together meant that my time out of the office was over in 2.5 years so was in some ways easier to deal with than 2 years with, say, a 3 yr gap.
