hello,

I created a poster of baby massage strokes and am now trying to sell it online.

I've built a site and am trying to improve my webshop but am very new at this. I don't think it looks bad, but want to improve it!

I keep fiddling around with it, but don't think I'm moving forward!

Any suggestions or obvious flaws spottable from inveterate web builders / web shoppers? Link is www.babymassageposter.com

TIA

I was trying to hide the writing as I thought it might be making the site look busy, but didn't have time to get the exact shade of grey! Well spotted.

Oh, that's loads better

Sorry, but I don't like the Baby Massage Poster text at the top left. It doesn't work as a logo and looks a bit cheap (sorry). Will this program allow you to import a JPEG? You might be best off creating a JPEG logo outside this program and then placing it there.

Also from a copy angle, I think that the text in the shopping section should read "Buy baby massage gift sets" and "Buy a baby massage poster".

Yes, I'm having problems with the text at the top! I created it outside the program, then imported it and it did something funny to it. Maybe its because I created it as a bmp, then saved it as a jpeg which pixellated it. I'll try putting one of the poster drawings there instead and see if that is better as a logo.

It looks much less cluttered doesn't it? I'm not sure whether its now a bit too boring bare as a home page now as it feels a bit cold to me, but not really sure how to fix it!

Could you put some baby photos at the top (rather than the massage ones) and use just use one larger massage drawing lower down at the right?

This would add some colour and also better illustrate the quality of the massage poster on your front page (the massage drawings are pretty small at the moment).

120cmsOfSnow · 22/11/2009 20:17

I'll give it a go!

How about this? I'm a bit hampered by the 1&1 format eg I can't put anything on the right hand side! I think the space is reserved for advertising (if you buy their advert package).

Still more to do I know, but I didn't want to leave it looking cheap overnight.

off to bed now, but doing lots tomorrow, so please do feel free to leave more suggestions! It is already so different looking. I just wish I'd posted a 'before' screen shot!

That's loads better! It looks clean without being clinical and I like what you have done with the pink text, the massage graphic and the wording of the main copy.

Sputnik · 22/11/2009 22:30

Sorry, I think it's worse now!
Where has the content gone? I thought it was fine in terms of "busyness" before, now it is looking too empty.
You need text on a homepage for Google.
Plus the baby pic was nice. You need at least one baby pic!
Still has the irritating grey stripes going across.
Sorry but I assume you want honest opinions.

120cmsOfSnow · 23/11/2009 08:29

Lol, we'll get a balance. I think its a bit too empty too, but I must say I agree with Florence on the header. Will work on a baby pic . I do think its now very clear what the site is about, which is a good start, strip down to the basics, then add slowly.

The grey stripes are part of the template from 1&1, so can't change them without changing the whole template (and some of them are a lot worse!). I will go through the templates again and see if there is one that doesn't have them (there are around 500 templates so will do that later in the week!). I don't think they are that fetching either.

glad some of you are enjoying the organic box blog too

How about a line of the massage illustrations along the top, then the "Baby Massage Poster" text under the links?

120cmsOfSnow · 23/11/2009 09:27

happy to give it a go and see what it looks like! I'm going to start taking some screen shots so its easier to compare.

I quite like the simplicity of this website.

Defo you need a cute baby piccie.

120cmsOfSnow · 24/11/2009 08:55

thanks Tracy, thats quite a posh site!

I'll put the before screen shots on here. Just done a load of changes which I'll publish shortly. Still struggling with the whole baby picture thing though as the site header squashes any pics I put up there.

Florence, if you are about, do you know anything about putting downloadable pdfs onsite?

Published them! Phew. That was a marathon session. Off to reheat get lunch. It might not look that different, but I've rearranged all the pages and changed some of things schnuller and mrA mentioned.

Think I'm getting there slowly!
