I have set my date for returning to work after maternity leave, I work in a nursery. Before I left I worked in a particular room. Its not in my contract that I do, that just states my job title, but I have always worked in there.

I dont think my job is still there for me and my boss has said she doesn't know where I will be working when I return.

From what I can work out there are three options;

I go back to my old job in my old room (what I want to happen)

I return to a job on the same level in the other room as someone else in there is due to go on maternity leave as I return (I dont want to do this but I could live with it)

I return to a job on the same level but with no room and I just go where I am needed as someone who does this and works similar hours to me is leaving at about the same time I return (this is my idea of job hell! the thought of it makes me want to cry)

It doesn't seem fair that I loose my room working with the age of children I have experience with and that I love working with just because I had a baby!

How long will you have been off? If you take more than 6 months you are not entitled to the exact same job back.
You say your job isn't there for you, why is that?

when I left there was less staff, and now the room I was in is fully staffed with out me.

and that seven months doesnt include holiday and the sick leave I had to take before my maternity leave

In that case you are only entitled to something suitable, which both your second two options would be by the sounds of thingsm
I suggest the best thing you can do is communicate well with your boss exploring the options and letting her know your preferencem
But as you've taken 7 months the bottom line is your rights are a bit more limited.

thanks, I think I will just have to come up with some good arguments for my return to work interview then
