I'm working as a 'learning supervisor' = Teaching Assistant plus extra responsibilities, including class cover when trained in a local secondary school (which is 5 mins walk from my house!)

PS Thanks to Fisil whose comments on this old thread about enthusiasm definitely contributed to my success.

Sensai Roisin, how good does that sound?
Hope you really enjoy it. Fantastic.

OliviasNanny · 19/05/2005 19:11

well done roisin! have u started yet?

marialuisa · 20/05/2005 10:54

Well done! No need to go back to not so nice boss then! {grin}

roisin · 21/05/2005 08:02

Absolutely ML! I enjoyed telling him.

OliviasNanny - I start in 3 weeks' time, which is great. Should give me chance to find my feet and get to grips with a few things before the summer break then be better equipped to face September.

Thanks everyone for the congrats.

Just seen this - congratulations Roisin, sounds right up your street, just the sort of thing you will enjoy doing

tigermoth · 21/05/2005 10:11

ohg roisin, I am really chuffed for you! This is just your sort of thing, I think - all that enthusiasm and knowledge of children's books you'll be passing on. Lucky children! I wonder if any of the interview panel are mumsnetters on the sly . Isn't it a pity you can't put your mumsnet area of expertise on a cv! congratulations!!!

roisin · 13/06/2005 07:29

well done roisin!
how did it go?

roisin · 17/06/2005 21:37

Well I'm shocked, horrified, daunted, overwhelmed, and exhausted. And I haven't really done anything yet!

But my new colleagues are all very friendly and supportive.

none of these surprise me. I did some supply in a secondary school and felt all of the above. I came to the conclusion that there were just too many hormones in one building!!!

all of this is presumimg that your feelings were, in part, due to the attitude and behaviour of the students. of course they may just relate to the curriculum content and workload on both students and teachers!

which subjects are you supporting?

roisin · 18/06/2005 07:55

I'm doing English and Expressive Arts (Drama, Music, and Art). But this week I've just been in the English Dept. EA next week!

?Good luck, Roisin You can do it.

LGJ · 18/06/2005 09:02

Congratulations.

tigermoth · 18/06/2005 09:04

roisin, I'll really looking forward to hearing progress reports. I am sure you can do it, but there must be loads to take in. And you are nearly doing full time job hours, so that's a lot of time. All those names, classrooms, the sheer size and pace of it all. I guess some knowledge will take time to amass like getting to know what you can really expect of the children, and what you should realistically be aiming for.

I was a bit 'shocked, horrified, daunted, overwhelmed, and exhausted' just viewing secondary schools last year, and that was after brief visits of a few hours.

I hope some teachers see your messages today and add their perspective and reassurance.

ScummyMummy · 18/06/2005 09:06

Don't know where the question mark came from in my last post. My good luck vibes are not in question at all!

Mhamai · 18/06/2005 09:14

Congrats Roisin

jambo1707 · 18/06/2005 09:33

well done
