How to turn down promotion (I actually want to have less hours)

Hi

I've just been given a promotion to deputy manager at the preschool where I work. I feel very pleased that my manager thinks I'm capable of the job but actually I've been offered another job opportunity on a very ad hoc basis that pays shed loads more - but is more risky in this economic climate. At least at the preschool there is a guaranteed future. Ideally I'd like to get the guts to talk to my manager to 1. turn down the promotion & 2. ask for less hours for me to pursue my other venture.
I know this sounds pretty crap & wet but I love my boss to pieces and don't want to let her down - god waffling now - any ideas please?

Just saw this today, no useful advice except don't get pushed into doing something you don't want to, hope your chat went well.
