Seen a fab job that would be a great stepping stone for the type of work I want to do.......................

but it's full time, it's this job and the bit that gets me really REALLY excited is

"As well as providing information to families about early education, health, and family support services for children aged 0-5"

The unit I'm currently doing in my OU course (introduction to health and social care) is covering this sort of work and it's got me absolutely hooked. It's SO what I want to do.

It's local to me, it pays a reasonable wage, BUT it means working full time. DH is happy to be a SAHD with the boys, and I know he'd do a fabulous job. When I saw it in the paper on Thursday (bought it for DH to look at for the jobs - but spotted this one myself) I thought "ooo I'll go for that" - then after a day I thought, hmm maybe I'll leave it, finish my course and wait until DS3 is closer to starting nursery before looking for work.

now I'm finding myself thinking about it more. It sounds like the sort of role which I could use to get myself into this job which is what I want to do.

What shall I do?? Shall I apply for it? Shall I leave it??? oh I'm in a quandary

Looks like a good oppurtunity to get your foot in the door of the area you'd like to work in.

If Dh doesn't mind being a sahd then go for it. I suppose Dh could carry on looking for part time stuff when your youngest gets a bit older and goes nursery ?

How are you finding the Intro to Health and Social care ?? I have looked at it a few times but don't know anyone who has done it.

found the first 2 units a bit "urghh" - but this 3rd block on Diverse communities and resources for care is fabulous - as it's what I'm really interested in. I wanted to do the social degree - but you can't register on that unless you're already actual working in a social type role (doesn't have to be a social worker job) - so I opted for the health and social care course. It's good stuff.

DH is definitely happy about being a SAHD - it was him that suggested it.!

Apply for it!

Then if they offer it to you you can decide if you definitely want to do it now. Either way, you'll either have a job or you'll be on their radar (and have newly-found confidence that you could get the job).

(sorry Mn was being weird and it took me forever to get that to post)

FAQinglovely · 17/05/2009 15:11

oh I don't know - am I ready to not just launch into work - but full time work????

It's a huge step/change and I'm not sure I'm ready for it - but the job sounds fab - would be enough for us to hang onto the house and repay debts etc etc.

Would DH be living with you? How would his being a SAHD work?

Apply for it, all you'll have lost is a little of your time and it'd be really good just to go to interview and find out more about the job. View it as a fact-finding exercise rather than a commitment to actually start work.

FAQinglovely · 17/05/2009 15:30

oh - have you not heard??? We're back together, currently splitting ourselves between "my" house and "his" house - going to be moving back in with him (hopefully) end of June

I didn't know that! Congratulations! I knew you'd been "seeing" each other, but wasn't sure how far along that was or what the implications were

violethill · 17/05/2009 16:08

Definitely go for it! If your DH wants to be a SAHD then can't see any reason not to!

noordinarymum · 31/05/2009 17:47

I just wondered if you had gone for it in the end??? Big decision isn't it!

I start tomorrow in a job that i hope is going to lead me into either social work or teenage work.....i am abit nervous!
