I'm just about to start my maternity leave. After the birth I would like to join the Police in their Special Constable scheme. It is unpaid and considered as volunteering. I do not want to go back to my paid job for a while but I'd like to gain some new experience and think of what I want to do. Does anybody know if I will still be eligible for my maternity pay or if the start of a new 'job' (even if it's unpaid) will automatically stop my maternity pay?
