Should I go for the Head of Dept. Promotion?

I'm in a real pickle! I've been teaching in the same school, same dept. for 9 years, never really interested in going for promotion as my 3 kids were all little.

The oldest is starting full time school in September, and a Head of Dept job has come up near to where I live. Went and had a little look round yesterday, and it's a bit of a grot hole! (although I suppose most schools are) There is one other member of the dept. who is very weak, I'm led to believe.

So do I go for it? Its only worth an extra £150 a month. Is it worth it?

Well personally I wouldn't go for a promotion just for the money, and you don't sound very positive about the role apart from that. I think you should be excited about a new job and you don't sound as though you are.
