As a parent of an 'under five' am i entitled to four weeks unpaid leave?

...i think it was designed to cover emergencies etc?

Yes you are, but I think there are rules about giving notice, so it's not that useful in emergencies! Link here

You are entitled to parental leave, 13 weeks total, maximum of 4 weeks a year unpaid. It's not for emergencies, you need to give notice and your employer can postpone it for up to 6 months.

For emergencies you have this, a day or two unpaid.

The parental leave thing is great as i want to add the full four weeks to my AL and then work pretty much term time only....so agree it all up front,which is what they want right?
